Role Summary
Main duties will involve:
- Working towards hitting targets connected to stock budgets, waste, margin and sales.
- Responsibility for building and executing commercial plans with suppliers.
- Building business relationships with both small business owners and FMCG suppliers.
- Managing branded and private label business.
- Negotiating and managing supplier contracts and terms
- Some admin responsibilities, ordering, stock control, setting up new line forms and answering the office phone.
- Completing range reviews.
Farmfoods is a successful, independent retailer specialising in frozen food. We are renowned for excellent quality and great value, without compromise. There are over 340 Farmfoods shops in the UK and 4 distribution centres with a Commercial Office based in South Birmingham.
The Commercial Department is an essential part of our business and because of recent significant growth, we currently have a requirement for a full time Junior Buyer to support the fast-paced Commercial Team with all aspects of the daily operations. Our Commercial Team is responsible for selecting and managing a range of products and suppliers that service our shops, with a combined turnover over £1bn.
The Successful Candidate will:
- Have some commercial experience in a fast moving consumer goods environment
- Be a driven person, who is looking to grow and develop as a buyer.
- Be someone who can work well independently.
- Be a confident communicator.
- Have good time management and organisational skills.
- Have strong analytical skills, numerical and negotiating skills.
- Be proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word and Powerpoint.
- Have a Grade B or above in Maths and English GCSE.
- Have a degree in any subject or equivalent.
The office is home to many of the company’s Directors and Senior Management Team so the successful candidate must be comfortable and confident dealing with people at all levels of seniority along with external stakeholders such as suppliers and customers.
We expect the successful candidate to have a good academic record, including grade B in GCSE English and Maths (or equivalent). They should also have a good standard of further education, but a degree is not essential for this role. Some experience in a retail environment would be highly beneficial.
