Job Overview
APPLICANTS MUST LIVE WITHIN A COMMUTABLE DISTANCE OF EDINBURGH AND HAVE THE RIGHT TO WORK IN THE UK.
We are delighted to be exclusively instructed by our client, a Scottish Public Inquiry, to recruit a Legal Assistant for a unique and high-profile project based in Edinburgh.
This fixed-term opportunity (6–12 months, with possibility for further extension to a maximum of 23 months) offers the chance to gain valuable public sector experience while contributing to a significant and high-impact Inquiry. Working as part of a small, collaborative legal team, you will play a key role in analysing, investigating and preparing complex evidence to support the Inquiry's work.
Key Responsibilities:
- Providing administrative support to the Inquiry, including conducting document searches, updating document links and maintaining document trackers.
- Liaising with the National Records of Scotland to facilitate document retrieval and respond to information requests.
- Reviewing documentation to ensure legal accuracy, consistency and quality.
- Preparing accurate meeting minutes and circulating them to relevant stakeholders.
- Supporting the Deputy Solicitors by liaising with Core Participants and the Law Accountant regarding billing matters.
You will hold an undergraduate degree (or higher) in Law or a related discipline and possess excellent analytical skills with exceptional attention to detail. Given the volume and complexity of the material, you will be organised, adaptable and capable of managing competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Candidates with experience in Public Inquiries, data protection or Freedom of Information work are encouraged to apply. Please note that applications cannot be considered from individuals who have previously worked for the Crown Office, PIRC, Police Scotland or any of the Inquiry's Core Participant legal teams.
Hybrid working is also available, with a minimum of one day per week in the Edinburgh office (Tuesdays).
