We are seeking an experienced and motivated Senior Nurse for Neonatal Services to provide leadership, operational management, and clinical governance across neonatal services within Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board. Based at Prince Charles Hospital, with responsibility for services at Princess of Wales Hospital, the post holder will lead nursing teams to deliver safe, effective, and high-quality care for babies and their families.
The successful candidate will drive service improvement, workforce leadership, quality assurance, clinical governance, and resource management, ensuring services meet national standards and organisational objectives. Working closely with multidisciplinary colleagues, they will promote innovation, support staff development, oversee audits and investigations, and foster a culture of continuous improvement aligned with Values Based Healthcare.
This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced neonatal nursing leader to influence the future development of neonatal services while ensuring excellent outcomes and experiences for patients and families.
The post holder will provide professional leadership, management and governance for Neonatal Services across Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board, working autonomously to deliver specialist advice and ensure high standards of safe, effective and compassionate care.
They will lead, support and develop registered nurses and support staff, while working closely with the Senior Nursing Team and Service Manager to monitor, evaluate and continuously improve the quality of care. The role includes interpreting and implementing national and Health Board policies, ensuring compliance with professional standards, organisational policies and codes of conduct.
The post holder will oversee quality assurance processes, clinical audits and governance systems, supporting professional revalidation, performance management and continuous service improvement. They will lead investigations into clinical incidents, complaints and professional concerns, ensuring recommendations are implemented and lessons learned are embedded into practice.
A key aspect of the role is promoting a culture of continuous improvement aligned with the principles of Value Based Healthcare, ensuring improvement plans are in place and patient outcomes and experiences continue to improve.
The post holder will also participate in the senior manager/midwifery on-call rota, providing expert leadership and operational support as required.

The post holder will provide operational, professional and clinical leadership across Neonatal Services, ensuring safe, effective, high-quality care and the efficient use of resources.
They will hold responsibility for service governance, workforce management, budget oversight, performance delivery and continuous improvement in line with Health Board objectives and Value Based Healthcare principles.
Key responsibilities include leading quality, safety and risk management, overseeing clinical governance, infection prevention, safeguarding, patient experience and regulatory compliance.
The role will support and lead investigations into incidents, complaints, claims and professional concerns, ensuring lessons learned are implemented and shared across services.
The post holder will work closely with the Head of Nursing, Directorate Manager and multidisciplinary teams to develop, implement and evaluate operational plans, service improvements, workforce strategies and new service initiatives.
They will contribute to long-term service planning, redesign and innovation, ensuring sustainable, cost-effective services that meet the changing needs of the population.
They will provide visible leadership for nursing and support staff through recruitment, retention, appraisal, performance management, attendance management, professional development and workforce planning.
The role includes managing complex staffing issues, chairing meetings, leading training programmes and promoting a culture of accountability, learning and continuous improvement.
The post holder will provide expert clinical advice and support for complex patient management, safeguarding, public health initiatives and evidence-based practice.
They will use audit, research and performance data, including PREMs, PROMs and DATIX, to drive quality improvement and improve patient outcomes and experiences.
Responsibilities also include monitoring budgets and financial performance, identifying efficiencies, ensuring compliance with financial and HR policies, managing resources during periods of pressure, and supporting emergency and crisis management.
The post holder will work in partnership with internal and external stakeholders, represent and promote the service, support patient and public involvement, and participate in the Maternity and Neonatal Senior Manager on-call rota.
