Health & Safety Advisor
Location: Office based (near Chorley, Lancashire) with regular travel to sites across the UK
Reporting To: Health, Safety & Environmental Manager

About the Role
We are seeking a proactive Health & Safety Advisor to support the delivery of our Health, Safety and Environmental (HSE) programme across our operations.
The successful candidate will play a key role in promoting a positive safety culture, ensuring compliance with company standards and legal requirements, and supporting continuous improvement across both office and field-based activities.
This is a varied role combining site inspections, contractor engagement, incident investigations, compliance monitoring and office-based administrative duties. The role requires regular travel to operational sites and direct engagement with installers, contractors and management teams.
Experience within construction, renewable energy, building services or a similar industry would be desirable, particularly involving work at height and scaffolding activities.
Key Responsibilities
Site Safety Monitoring & Inspections
- Carry out regular site inspections and audits to assess compliance with company procedures and statutory requirements.
- Monitor contractor performance and provide practical guidance to improve safety standards.
- Conduct scaffold inspections and assess the adequacy of work-at-height controls.
- Identify hazards, unsafe behaviours and non-conformances, ensuring corrective actions are implemented.
- Support management teams in developing safe systems of work and risk control measures for site works.
- Promote a visible and positive health and safety presence across operational sites.
Compliance & Management Systems
- Assist in maintaining the company's Health, Safety and Environmental Management System.
- Support the development and review of policies, procedures, risk assessments and safe working practices.
- Ensure documentation remains compliant with current legislation and industry best practice.
- Monitor legal and client compliance requirements and support implementation across the business.
Contractor Management
- Support contractor onboarding and competency verification processes.
- Conduct contractor compliance checks.
- Liaise with installation teams to communicate safety expectations and improvement initiatives.
- Support the delivery of contractor engagement programmes and safety campaigns.
Incident Investigation & Reporting
- Investigate incidents, near misses and unsafe conditions.
- Identify root causes and recommend corrective and preventative actions.
- Prepare clear and concise reports for management review.
- Monitor completion of corrective actions and follow-up requirements.
Safety Communication & Training
- Develop toolbox talks, briefings and safety communications.
- Support employee and contractor induction programmes.
- Assist in developing health and safety awareness throughout the organisation.
- Promote behavioural safety and continuous improvement initiatives.
Reporting & Administration
- Maintain accurate inspection, audit and incident records.
- Produce regular HSE performance reports and trend analysis.
- Track actions arising from inspections, audits and incidents.
- Support preparation for client audits and external inspections.
Essential Skills & Experience
- Experience working in or towards a Health & Safety Advisor, Health & Safety Coordinator or similar role.
- An understanding of UK Health & Safety legislation.
- Experience carrying out site inspections and audits.
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
- Ability to influence and engage people at all levels.
- Competent in Microsoft Office applications.
- Full UK Driving Licence.
- Willingness to travel frequently to operational sites.
Desirable Skills & Experience
- Experience of scaffold inspections and scaffold safety management is highly desirable.
- NEBOSH General Certificate (or equivalent).
- Experience within construction, building services, utilities, renewable energy or a related sector.
- Experience within solar, electrical, construction or renewable energy sectors.
- Experience of work at height operations.
- Knowledge of scaffold TG20 and SG4 guidance.
- Experience of scaffold inspections and scaffold safety management.
- Understanding of contractor management processes.
- Experience conducting incident investigations.

Pay: £30,000.00 per year
