Kitchen Assistant – 20–30 Hours Per Week
The Castle Inn, Lydford, Dartmoor
We’re looking for a Kitchen Assistant to join our friendly kitchen team at The Castle Inn in Lydford.
This is a 20–30 hour-per-week position, working a mixture of daytimes, evenings and weekends.
This is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys working as part of a team and isn’t afraid to get stuck in. No previous kitchen experience is needed – we’re looking for someone with a positive attitude, a willingness to learn and the ability to keep calm when things get busy.
The role
Working alongside our kitchen team, you’ll help keep everything running smoothly and play an important part in delivering fantastic food to our guests.
Your duties will include:
- Washing dishes, pots, pans and kitchen equipment
- Helping with the day-to-day running of the kitchen
- Receiving and putting away daily deliveries
- Measuring and preparing ingredients
- Preparing fresh, locally sourced produce
- Assisting with stock rotation and organisation
- Keeping the kitchen, washing-up and preparation areas clean and tidy
- Supporting the chefs and wider team during busy services
What we’re looking for
You don’t need previous experience as full training will be provided. More important to us is that you:

- Can work well under pressure in a busy environment
- Take pride in doing a good job
- Are able to work a mixture of daytime, evening and weekend shifts
