Logical Personnel Solutions are recruiting for a Technical Operations Associate for a client in Rotherham.
Role Purpose
The Technical Operations Associate is responsible for undertaking skilled operational work within the IT asset disposition, refurbishment, recovery, and recycling process. The role builds on the core responsibilities of an Operations Associate, with a greater focus on technical assessment, device harvesting, refurbishment, component recovery, data-bearing asset handling, and compliant destruction activities.
The role requires a strong working understanding of IT hardware, device grading, component identification, testing, repair, dismantling, and value recovery. The Technical Operations Associate will support the wider operations team by resolving routine technical issues, identifying faults, helping maintain quality standards, and ensuring devices and components are processed safely, accurately, and in line with company procedures.
This is a hands-on operational role. It does not carry formal line-management responsibility, but the post-holder will be expected to act as a technical point of support for Operations Associates and to help maintain consistent working standards across the team.
Key Responsibilities
● Warehouse & Stock Handling
Receive, unload, check, and book in inbound deliveries against manifests and system records. Label, log, and store assets accurately using systems and agreed warehouse controls. Pick, stage, pack, and prepare items for internal movement, customer orders, donation programmes, refurbishment areas, parts recovery, destruction, or recycling streams. Maintain good housekeeping, stock discipline, accurate asset movement, and safe manual handling practices at all times.
● Technical Processing & Refurbishment
Perform functional and cosmetic checks on devices in line with standard operating procedures. Assess devices for resale, donation, refurbishment, parts harvesting, destruction, or recycling. Carry out skilled refurbishment activities, including component replacement, cleaning, rebuilding, upgrading, and preparation of devices for reuse or resale. Harvest usable parts from scrap, failed, or uneconomic devices, ensuring recovered components are correctly identified, labelled, stored, and recorded. Support the building of refurbished devices from recovered parts and ensure completed units meet required quality, functional, and cosmetic standards.
● Data Erasure & Secure Handling
Handle data-bearing assets securely and in accordance with procedures, customer requirements, and compliance standards. Carry out standard data erasure or media handling tasks where trained and authorised to do so. Ensure devices, drives, storage media, and other data-bearing components are correctly logged, labelled, moved, and recorded within systems. Follow all procedures relating to chain of custody, traceability, secure storage, and safe handling. Identify and escalate any failed erasures, missing components, discrepancies, or information security concerns promptly.
● Quality, Compliance, & Control
Complete defined quality checks at the appropriate process stages. Identify, report, and escalate defects, discrepancies, rework issues, process failures, or non-conformances promptly. Support compliance with operational, environmental, and information security standards, including ISO and ADISA/R2v3 requirements where applicable. Follow all procedures relating to chain of custody, data-bearing assets, traceability, safe handling, environmental controls, and stock accuracy. Contribute to improved quality, reduced rework, and better value recovery by raising practical improvement suggestions.
● Technical Support & Operational Contribution
Provide practical technical support to Operations Associates where they encounter routine device faults, component identification issues, system questions, or uncertainty over device routing. Support colleagues with correct technical handling, grading, refurbishment, harvesting, and processing standards. Participate in team briefings, toolbox talks, training, and continuous improvement activity. Maintain accurate task completion and system records. Work flexibly across operational tasks in line with management instructions and operational requirements. Support a safe, organised, and efficient working environment. Undertake any other reasonable duties within the scope of the role.
Person Specification
Essential
● Experience in a warehouse, production, processing, manufacturing, ITAD, refurbishment, electronics handling, or other hands-on technical operational environment.
● Practical understanding of IT hardware, device components, and common device faults.
● Ability to carry out functional checks, cosmetic assessment, basic diagnostics, component identification, dismantling, refurbishment, or parts harvesting activities.
● Ability to follow technical procedures, work instructions, standard operating procedures, and compliance controls accurately.
● Good attention to detail, particularly when recording asset information, serial numbers, component details, data-bearing media, test results, and processing outcomes.
● Basic IT literacy and confidence using systems to record work, track items, update asset status, and complete processing records.
● Awareness of secure handling requirements for data-bearing assets, with the ability to follow chain of custody, traceability, and information security procedures.
● Reliable, punctual, and able to work at pace in a structured operational environment while maintaining quality and accuracy.
● Able to support colleagues with routine technical questions in a practical and constructive manner.
● Physically able to undertake manual handling activities within health and safety guidelines.
● Willingness to undergo pre-employment screening appropriate to the role, including an enhanced DBS check.
Desirable
● Previous experience in IT asset disposition, device refurbishment, electronics repair, technical recycling, or reverse logistics.
● Experience with laptop, desktop, tablet, mobile phone, server, or network equipment testing, repair, refurbishment, or dismantling.
● Experience using ERP, WMS, production tracking, inventory control, asset management, or data erasure systems. Familiarity with Blancco and Odoo would be advantageous.
● Knowledge of data erasure, media sanitisation, physical destruction, or secure asset handling processes.
● Experience harvesting, grading, storing, or reusing components from scrap or uneconomic devices.
● Experience working within a regulated quality, environmental, or compliance-led environment.
● Pallet truck, forklift, manual handling, ESD, electrical safety, or other relevant operational certification.
● Experience supporting, coaching, or training less experienced colleagues on technical tasks or process standards.
