Job Overview
The Registered Manager will be responsible for the overall management and delivery of high-quality care within a residential setting for children with varying needs. You will ensure that the care home complies with regulatory requirements, upholds the highest standards of child protection, and fosters a safe, nurturing environment. You will provide leadership and guidance to a team of care staff, oversee the implementation of care plans, and ensure that the emotional, social, physical, and developmental needs of children are met.
As the Registered Manager, you will hold full responsibility for the service’s operational, regulatory, and financial management. You will work closely with families, external agencies, and other professionals to ensure that every child receives the individual care they need to thrive.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership and Service Management
- Provide strategic leadership and day-to-day management of the residential care service, ensuring it meets all regulatory requirements.
- Be accountable for the service’s operational effectiveness, ensuring it provides a safe, supportive, and empowering environment for children with learning disabilities.
- Lead, motivate, and manage the care team, ensuring they work in line with the home's policies, procedures, and best practices.
- Develop and implement service improvement strategies, continually reviewing practices and identifying areas for improvement.
Compliance and Regulatory Oversight
- Ensure the service remains compliant with the regulatory requirements of Ofsted and other relevant agencies.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of current legislation, safeguarding procedures, and sector developments, ensuring compliance with all necessary standards and guidelines.
- Lead on preparation and participation in inspections, audits, and assessments, ensuring the service achieves and maintains high standards.
- Act as the designated safeguarding lead, ensuring safeguarding protocols are followed and that all staff are trained and knowledgeable on safeguarding best practices.
Strategic Planning and Development
- Contribute to the strategic development of the care service, including developing long-term plans to improve the quality of care and outcomes for children.
- Implement new initiatives to enhance the residential care service, incorporating feedback from children, families, staff, and regulatory bodies.
Additional Information:
- The role requires working in a residential care setting, including evening, weekend, sleep ins, and holiday shifts as needed.
- The successful candidate will be required to undergo an Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check, as well as full safer recruitment checks.
Key Skills and Experience:
Essential:
- Proven experience in a managerial or leadership role within a residential care setting, particularly working with children with learning disabilities or other complex needs.
- Level 5 Diploma in Leadership and Management Health and Social Care (Children and Young People) or equivalent, or working towards this qualification.
- In-depth knowledge of child protection, safeguarding procedures, and relevant legislation.
- Strong understanding of the regulatory framework and the ability to lead a service through inspections and audits.
- Experience in staff management, training, supervision, and development.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build and maintain relationships with children, families, and professionals.
- Ability to manage budgets, resources, and service improvements effectively.
- Previous experience as a Registered Manager or in a similar leadership role within a children’s care setting.
- A working knowledge of therapeutic models or behaviour management techniques for children with learning disabilities.
Desirable:
- Experience in a senior leadership role managing multi-disciplinary teams.
- Knowledge of financial management and strategic planning in a care setting.
