Kitchen Assistant / Kitchen Porter
We are looking for a dynamic and enthusiastic individual to join our friendly team at our daytime Coffee Shop/Café.
Salt and Pepper is a well-established independent retailer (since 2000) located in the heart of Monmouth. Our business includes adjoining shops — a Cook Shop, Gift Shop, and Clothes Shop — with our Coffee Shop/Café playing a central and much-loved role. We serve a full daytime menu, cakes, and our popular bespoke coffee blend. We are also fully licensed.
We focus on working with fresh local produce to create appetising meals using seasonal ingredients and supporting local suppliers.
About the Role
It is a busy daytime commercial kitchen and are looking to add to our team. We are looking for an individual who will support our other chefs with food preparation, washing up and closing the kitchen at the end of a shift.
- Keeping the kitchen, food preparation, and food storage areas clean
- Washing dishes, cutlery, pots, and pans
- Loading and unloading the dishwasher
- Removing kitchen waste and emptying bins
- Putting away deliveries
- Supporting the chefs as needed
- Food prep (cleaning and preparing vegetables / salad)

- No previous experience necessary — full training will be provided
Please note: this is a physically demanding role.
Working Hours
- Daytime hours only — no evenings or split shifts
- Our busiest period is during lunch service (11:00am–3:00pm), so we are looking for someone available for shifts of 3–5 hours
Opening Hours
- Monday–Saturday: 9:00am–5:00pm
- Sunday: 10:00am–4:00pm
Salary
Salary will be discussed at interview and will depend on experience.
