Role Overview
We are recruiting a Grounds Maintenance Team Leader to run a small team, oversee daily operations, and ensure consistent high-quality work across multiple sites.
This is a hands-on leadership role. You will work on the tools while managing site standards, productivity and documentation.
Key ResponsibilitiesLeadership and Site Management
- Leading a team on a wide range of grounds maintenance contracts
- Managing daily site visits and coordinating work plans
- Delegating tasks effectively to match skill level and site requirements
- Ensuring all work is completed safely, efficiently and to a high standard
- Acting as the on-site contact for clients, members of the public and council representatives
Operational Duties
- Completing a full range of grounds maintenance tasks, including:
- Grass cutting, strimming, edging and mowing large areas
- Hedge cutting, shrub maintenance and reduction work
- Weed control (manual and chemical where qualified)
- Leaf clearance, litter collection and site tidying
- Monitoring site conditions and highlighting additional work opportunities
- Conducting basic daily checks on machinery and vehicles
- Ensuring operatives follow company health and safety procedures
Digital Job Management
- Using an app-based CRM (BigChange-style platform) to:
- Receive job sheets
- Upload before/after photos
- Complete site notes
- Sign off work for client reporting
- Ensuring your team logs work accurately and consistently
About You
You will thrive in this role if you:
- Have proven experience in grounds maintenance (minimum 4 years)
- Are confident leading others and setting the standard on site
- Are highly reliable, organised and able to work independently
- Can coach newer staff and help drive their development
- Are comfortable using smartphones and task-management apps
- Take pride in producing clean, professional work across every site
Essential Requirements
- Grounds maintenance experience
- Experience leading a team or stepping up into a lead role
- Full UK driving licence
- Strong practical skills with grounds machinery
- Good communication skills and a friendly, professional approach
Desirable (Training Can Be Provided)
- Chainsaw tickets (NPTC units)
- PA1/PA6 pesticide qualifications
- Trailer experience
- Basic arboricultural knowledge
