Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Nursery Room Leader / Deputy Manager to join our childcare team. The successful candidate will support the Nursery Manager in delivering high-quality early childhood education and care, ensuring a safe, nurturing, and stimulating environment for young children. The Deputy Manager will play a vital role in leading staff, organising daily activities, and maintaining compliance with all regulatory standards.
Duties
- Assist the Nursery Manager in overseeing daily operations of the nursery or preschool setting.
- Support the planning and delivery of age-appropriate educational programmes that promote children's development across all areas.
- Lead and supervise staff members, ensuring high standards of care and professionalism are maintained at all times.
- Contribute to staff training, mentoring, and performance management to foster a motivated team environment.
- Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations, safeguarding policies, and Ofsted requirements.
- Build positive relationships with children, parents, and external agencies to promote effective communication and partnership working.
- Organise activities that stimulate learning, creativity, and social development among children.
- Maintain accurate records of children's progress, attendance, and welfare needs.
- Support the Nursery Manager in managing administrative tasks such as rota planning, resource management, and reporting.
Skills
- Proven management and leadership skills within an early years or childcare setting.
- Extensive experience working with children, ideally within nurseries or early childhood education environments.
- Strong understanding of childcare regulations, safeguarding procedures, and early learning frameworks.
- Excellent communication skills in English, with the ability to liaise effectively with children, parents, colleagues, and external professionals.
- Childcare qualifications such as NVQ Level 3 in Childcare or equivalent are essential; further qualifications in early childhood education are desirable.
- Organisation skills with the ability to multitask efficiently while maintaining attention to detail.
- A caring approach combined with professionalism and patience when working with young children.
- Valid driving licence is advantageous for roles requiring travel between settings or community engagement activities.
