As a CNC Grinder, you will produce high-precision crankshafts, camshafts and other critical engine components, working to exacting standards and micron-level tolerances. You will be responsible for setting and operating a range of CNC and manual grinding machines, ensuring every component meets our uncompromising quality standards.
Working within a highly skilled manufacturing team, you will contribute to continuous improvement initiatives while maintaining the highest standards of safety, quality and operational excellence.
The Role
- Set and operate CNC and manual cylindrical and surface grinding machines.
- Manufacture precision crankshafts, camshafts and other engine components in accordance with engineering drawings and specifications.
- Produce components efficiently while maintaining the highest standards of quality and accuracy.
- Carry out in-process and final inspection using precision measuring equipment, including gauges, Perthometer and Adcole systems.
- Read and interpret engineering drawings, technical specifications and manufacturing documentation.
- Set up work holding, mount and dress grinding wheels to achieve optimum machining performance.
- Identify, report and resolve machining or production issues in a timely manner.
- Work collaboratively with colleagues across Manufacturing, Quality and Engineering to achieve production objectives.
- Contribute to continuous improvement activities by identifying opportunities to improve manufacturing methods, tooling and processes.
- Maintain high standards of housekeeping and ensure all work is completed safely and in accordance with company procedures.
- Consider the health, safety, environmental and energy impacts of all activities.
- Support the Company’s compliance with the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR) and the Data Protection Act 2018 by adhering to company policies and best practice.
Candidate Profile
Essential
- Experience setting and operating CNC and/or manual grinding machines.
- Experience within precision engineering, automotive, aerospace, motorsport or a similarly regulated manufacturing environment.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and technical specifications.
- Strong understanding of precision machining techniques and quality standards.
- Excellent problem-solving skills with a methodical approach to fault finding.
- Good communication skills and the ability to work effectively within a team.
- Commitment to maintaining high standards of quality, safety and continuous improvement.
Desirable
- Experience operating Junker and/or Kellenberg grinding machines.
- Experience of cylindrical and surface grinding.
- Knowledge of work holding methods, wheel mounting and wheel dressing.
- Experience using precision inspection equipment, including Adcole and Perthometer measuring systems.
- Understanding of geometric tolerancing (GD&T) and precision measurement techniques.
