We are seeking a motivated and organised Transport Planner to join our busy Distribution Office based in Jarrow, Tyne and Wear. This role is responsible for planning and coordinating deliveries across the UK, ensuring our fleet of Heavy Goods Vehicles (HGVs) is utilised efficiently and operates at maximum capacity.
The successful candidate will ideally have previous experience in transport planning, route optimisation, and load scheduling. Experience using transport planning software, particularly PTV Logistics (DPS), would be advantageous; however, full training will be provided.
A key aspect of this role is working closely with the Production, Warehouse, Customer Services and Distribution teams to ensure finished goods are delivered to customers efficiently, on time and in full, whilst maximising fleet utilisation through effective planning using PTV Logistics (DPS).
Working within a fast-paced distribution environment, you will liaise closely with drivers, warehouse teams, customer service colleagues, and other internal departments to ensure deliveries are completed safely, efficiently, and in line with customer requirements.
Key Responsibilities
· Plan, schedule, and optimise delivery routes using PTV Logistics (DPS).
· Allocate deliveries and loads efficiently across the HGV fleet to maximise vehicle utilisation and operational efficiency.
· Coordinate the delivery of furniture products to customers, distribution centres, and retail locations throughout the UK.
- Ensure vehicles are loaded to maximum capacity whilst maintaining safe loading practices for large and high-value furniture products.
· Monitor daily transport operations and respond promptly to delays, route changes, and operational issues.
- Work closely with Production, Warehouse, Customer Services, and Distribution teams to coordinate finished goods availability and delivery schedules.
- Liaise with drivers regarding routes, schedules, delivery instructions, and operational requirements.
- Communicate proactively with internal stakeholders regarding delivery schedules, capacity constraints, delivery issues, and customer requirements.
- Ensure deliveries are completed on time and in full whilst maintaining excellent customer service standards.
- Maintain accurate transport records and planning data.
- Assist with vehicle maintenance scheduling and ensure vehicle availability is considered when planning routes.
- Ensure transport operations comply with Drivers' Hours Regulations, the Working Time Directive, Operator Licence obligations, and company procedures.
- Monitor transport performance and identify opportunities to improve operational efficiency and reduce costs.
- Support the continuous improvement of transport planning processes and fleet performance.
Skills, Knowledge & Experience

Desirable:
- Previous experience in a Transport Planner, Logistics Planner, or Distribution Planner role.
- Experience using PTV Logistics (DPS) or similar route-planning software.
- Knowledge of UK road networks and geographical locations.
- Understanding of Drivers' Hours Regulations and EU driving rules.
- Experience planning routes and also input into carrier portals, printing labels for overnight carrier orders. Printing driver documents off / delivery notes.
· Experience within a furniture manufacturing, retail distribution, logistics, or multi-drop delivery environment.
· Understanding of warehouse and distribution processes.
Training & Development
Full in-house training and ongoing on-the-job support will be provided.

- This role is subject to a six-month probationary period.
