Senior Software Engineer – Deployment & Support
Want to build the system that puts mission critical capabilities into the hands of soldiers and first responders and own it end to end? Then keep reading...
Evolve Dynamics builds best-in-class UAV systems, payloads and software; used by UK police, fire and rescue, the Ministry of Defence, NATO partners, and heavily by Ukraine. We’ve been going since 2016, we’re one of the leading UAS companies in the world, and we’re now investing in the software that surrounds our systems.
This role owns a mission-critical problem: how our software actually reaches the field, and how the field reports back to us. You’ll build the pipelines and tools that get new capabilities safely onto our drones and ground controllers, and the telemetry and diagnostics platform that lets us see what our fielded systems are doing so we can support and improve them. When an operator in a demanding environment needs an update process to work without issue, or when we need to understand a fault from the other side of the world, this is the system that makes it possible.
You’ll own the whole surface: software updates with staged roll-out and reliable roll-back; telemetry ingestion and diagnostics from distributed, sometimes disconnected devices; the support tooling, management applications, and portal that sits on top; and the updating of the Android devices our operators use in the field. It’s a big, largely greenfield brief with a great deal of ownership, a real chance to leave a lasting mark on how Evolve Dynamics delivers software and supports our products in the field.
We’re also genuinely curious about how AI changes the way we build. We want to experiment with AI-augmented workflows and find a consistent, sustainable way of working that blends real software-engineering excellence with the speed AI can offer, no vibe, no hype, but a practical edge. If that excites you, you’ll be pushing at an open door.
What you’ll be like:
- Work small, deploy often. You break big problems into meaningful small chunks, deliver, and get feedback quickly rather than disappearing into large batches of work for weeks.
- Your code should bleed quality. You write tests first, automate your pipeline, and treat “done” as “in the user’s hands, safely.” You drive readable, testable, continuously-delivered code — and you help everyone around you do the same.
- Be safe, we work in the Defence & Aviation industries, safe code and a safe product is paramount.
- Work together, not apart. You genuinely prefer pairing and mobbing to heads-down solo work. You see sharing knowledge as part of the job, not an interruption to it, and you help dissolve silos rather than build them.
- Finish before you start. You naturally limit work-in-progress, focus on one thing at a time, and are wary of the hidden cost of context-switching.
- Be inquisitive. We want you to question the code, the pull requests and the processes, and you share your thoughts on better ways of doing things, lifting the productivity and quality as we go.
- Be bold. Your voice and your ideas will help shape the team's success.
- You feel for the operator. You genuinely care about the person on the other end of the screen, and you design to lighten their load when it matters most.
- You own “intuitive.” You’re happy to own the whole problem of intuitive control end to end, working from real user stories rather than being handed a spec.
- Be a pragmatic leader, and lead by example, show the team where improvements can be made, but balance it against productivity and customer deadlines.
What you’ll bring (demonstrable examples matter more than years):
- Full-stack / application engineering — you’ve built and operated web and native applications end to end: front end, back end, APIs and data.
- Deployment & release engineering — you’ve designed software update and delivery mechanisms; signed/verified bundles, staged roll-out and roll-back (e.g. A/B) would be brilliant.
- Telemetry & diagnostics — you’ve collected and made sense of telemetry and logs from remote or fielded devices, and turned that data into tooling people actually use.
- DevSecOps — you’re hands-on with CI/CD, Gitlab pipelines, infrastructure-as-code, containerisation and secure-by-design thinking; continuous delivery is your default.
- A native streak — some background building native desktop or mobile applications; we’re not convinced web technology alone will cut it, so breadth is valued.
- C++ (a bonus) — some C++ would be a genuine advantage given the systems you’ll integrate with, though it’s not essential. Likewise some understanding of Linux would be useful.
- Nice to have — mobile device management (Android Enterprise / MDM), and experience delivering to air-gaped, intermittently-connected or bandwidth-limited systems.
The practical stuff:
This is a full-time, senior role. It’s remote-friendly, but we’d like you within reach of our Farnham office and in 2–3 days a week, so you can work shoulder-to-shoulder with the wider engineering team and our hardware.
You’ll also get:
- Competitive Salary
- 25 days holiday
- Eligibility for the company bonus scheme
- Salary sacrifice car scheme
- Private health insurance
It’s an exciting time in a growing team. Your input will genuinely shape how we build and ship software for years to come. Come and make your mark. Apply now.
