Tandoori Chef
We are looking for an experienced and passionate Tandoori Chef to join our award-winning kitchen team. This is an excellent opportunity for a skilled chef to develop their career while working in a busy, professional Indian restaurant.
The main purpose of the role is to prepare and cook high-quality tandoori dishes while maintaining excellent standards of food safety, cleanliness, presentation and consistency.
Main Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be responsible for:
- Preparing and cooking a wide range of tandoori dishes, including chicken tikka, lamb tikka, seekh kebabs, tandoori chicken, fish tikka, paneer tikka and naan breads.
- Marinating meat, fish, paneer and vegetables using traditional Indian spices and recipes.
- Operating and maintaining the tandoor safely and efficiently.
- Ensuring all dishes are prepared to the restaurant’s recipes, portion sizes and presentation standards.
- Monitoring cooking temperatures and ensuring food is cooked and stored safely.
- Preparing ingredients and completing daily mise en place.
- Supporting the Head Chef with menu development and seasonal specials.
- Monitoring stock levels, placing orders and assisting with stock takes.
- Controlling food waste, portion sizes and food costs.
- Ensuring dietary requirements and allergen procedures are followed correctly.
- Maintaining a clean, organised and hygienic work area.
- Completing food safety records and ensuring compliance with Environmental Health Officer regulations.
- Working closely with curry, starter and South Indian sections during busy service periods.
- Training and supporting junior kitchen staff where required.
Requirements
The successful applicant should have:
- Previous experience working as a Tandoori Chef in a busy Indian restaurant or commercial kitchen.
- Strong knowledge of traditional tandoor cooking techniques.
- Experience preparing marinades, kebabs, grilled dishes and naan breads.
- Good knowledge of food hygiene, allergens and kitchen safety procedures.
- A Basic Food Hygiene Certificate or equivalent qualification.
- The ability to work efficiently under pressure.
- Good communication and teamwork skills.
- Strong attention to detail and consistency.
- The ability to work independently and use initiative.
- A flexible approach to working evenings, weekends and public holidays.
- The legal right to work in the UK.
