Job Summary
We are seeking a dynamic and versatile HGV Class 1 Driver / Hiab Operator to join our team. This role offers an exciting opportunity to combine professional driving with skilled crane operation, supporting our construction and logistics operations. You will be responsible for delivering materials efficiently and safely while operating a Hiab crane (also known as a loader crane) to load and unload goods at various sites. The ideal candidate will possess strong mechanical knowledge, construction experience, and a proactive attitude to ensure smooth, timely deliveries and handling of materials.
Duties
- Safely operate a Heavy Goods Vehicle (HGV) Class 1 lorry for long-distance and local deliveries, adhering strictly to road safety regulations and company policies
- Skillfully operate the Hiab crane to load and unload heavy materials, ensuring secure handling and placement of cargo
- Conduct thorough vehicle inspections before and after trips, reporting any mechanical issues or safety concerns promptly
- Assist with materials handling tasks such as forklift operation, shipping & receiving, and warehouse organization when required
- Maintain accurate delivery documentation, including delivery notes, manifests, and logs
- Communicate effectively with site personnel to coordinate deliveries and pickups, ensuring timely service
- Follow all health and safety protocols diligently during driving, crane operation, and materials handling activities
Skills
- Strong mechanical knowledge to troubleshoot minor vehicle or equipment issues confidently
- Proven experience in commercial driving with a valid HGV Class 1 license
- Hands-on materials handling skills including forklift operation and warehouse experience
- Competence in operating a Hiab crane or similar loader crane equipment safely and efficiently
- Construction experience is highly desirable to understand site requirements and safety procedures
- Familiarity with shipping & receiving processes to manage cargo flow accurately
- Excellent communication skills for coordinating with team members and site personnel
About the company ; we mainly deliver empty shipping containers and relocate loaded containers from site to site but we do do some general haulage, mainly balers and compactors.
Drivers can be asked to do the odd night away with overtime available as needed.
Training is provided but candidates should have the below ;
Valid Hiab ticket with at least 3 years left on it.
Valid CPC with at least 3 year left on it.
Must have trailer ticket and experience.
Workwear is provided.
Forklift experience disired.
