About MAX Automotive Group Ltd
Due to continued growth of our fleet and commercial vehicle operation, MAX Automotive Group Ltd is looking for an experienced Mobile Van Technician / Mobile LCV Mechanic to join our expanding team.
This is a predominantly mobile position supporting fleet operators, businesses and commercial customers with servicing, maintenance, diagnostics, repairs and breakdown assistance.
You'll operate from a fully equipped MAX mobile service van, attending customer depots, workplaces and other locations across the West Midlands and surrounding areas.
We're looking for an experienced technician with a proven track record who can work independently, diagnose faults properly and take ownership of getting customers' vehicles repaired and back on the road.
The Role
Your work will include:
- Mobile van and LCV servicing
- Scheduled and preventative fleet maintenance
- Mechanical repairs
- Diagnostics and fault finding
- Electrical fault diagnosis and repairs
- Brakes, suspension and steering
- Batteries, starting and charging systems
- DPF, EGR and emissions-related diagnostics
- AdBlue/SCR system diagnostics
- Cooling system repairs
- Clutches
- Timing belts and wet belts where suitable for mobile repair
- MOT preparation and defect rectification
- Vehicle health checks
- Breakdown diagnosis and repairs
- Manufacturer scheduled maintenance
- Digital inspections and job cards
- Identifying and reporting additional work
- Liaising directly with customers and fleet managers
Although predominantly mobile, you'll have the support of our Oldbury workshops for repairs requiring workshop facilities.
Proven Experience Required
This position requires a proven professional track record as a Van Technician, LCV Technician or experienced Light Vehicle Technician.
This isn't a trainee or entry-level position.
You must be comfortable attending a customer's vehicle independently, establishing the fault and determining the correct repair without needing constant supervision.
You should have strong experience in:
✓ Van and LCV servicing and maintenance
✓ General mechanical repairs
✓ Diagnostics and fault finding
✓ Electrical fault diagnosis
✓ Brakes and suspension
✓ DPF, EGR and emissions systems
✓ Modern diagnostic equipment
✓ Manufacturer repair procedures
✓ Fleet preventative maintenance
✓ Correctly identifying additional work
✓ Working independently at customer locations
Diagnostic ability is particularly important to us.
We're not looking for somebody who simply replaces parts until the fault disappears. We want technicians who understand how to test, diagnose and repair vehicles correctly.
£10 Productivity Bonus
We believe productive technicians should be rewarded.
In addition to your basic hourly rate, we operate an uncapped productivity bonus paying £10 for every additional productive hour achieved.
Where additional productive/billable hours are achieved above the hours worked, those qualifying additional hours are rewarded at £10 per hour.
Quality and first-time fix always come first.
Comeback, rework or incorrectly completed work does not qualify towards the productivity bonus.
The scheme isn't about rushing jobs. It's designed to reward skilled technicians who can work efficiently, maintain high standards and help us reduce customer vehicle downtime.
Qualifications & Experience
Ideally, you'll have:
- NVQ Level 3 Light Vehicle Maintenance & Repair or equivalent
- Proven van/LCV repair experience
- Full UK driving licence
- Strong mechanical and diagnostic skills
- Experience working independently
An MOT Tester qualification would be advantageous but isn't essential.
EV & Hybrid qualifications would also be beneficial, with further training and development opportunities available for the right technician.
What We're Looking For
You'll need to be:
✓ Reliable and punctual
✓ Capable of working independently
✓ Strong at diagnostics and fault finding
✓ Productive and organised
✓ Professional when attending customer sites
✓ Confident working on different makes of vans and LCVs
✓ Focused on first-time fixes
✓ Committed to high workmanship standards
✓ Comfortable using digital job cards and inspections
✓ Able to communicate effectively with customers and the office
✓ Responsible for your mobile service van, tools and equipment
Most importantly, we're looking for someone who takes ownership of the job.
When you attend a customer's vehicle, we want you to establish the problem, communicate what's required and do everything reasonably possible to get that vehicle safely back into service.
