Communication Support Worker
Pay: £14.50 - £15.93ph
Hours: 8:30am – 3:30pm, Monday to Friday (term-time only)
Start Date: ASAP
Humly is seeking a highly motivated, personable and experienced Communication Support Worker (CSW) to join the Learning Support Department of a welcoming mainstream secondary school.
This is an excellent opportunity for a passionate and committed professional to provide 1:1 communication support to a pupil with a hearing impairment, helping them access lessons, wider school activities and the full educational experience.
The Role
As a Communication Support Worker, you will work closely with the pupil, teaching staff, SENCO and external professionals to:
- Provide 1:1 communication support across mainstream lessons and whole-school environments.
- Use BSL and Sign Supported English (SSE) to support effective communication and learning.
- Help identify and remove barriers to learning and communication.
- Develop and adapt resources to improve communication access within lessons.
- Support targeted interventions and the development of effective communication strategies.
- Build positive, trusting relationships with pupils while promoting independence and confidence.
- Work collaboratively with the wider school team to support the pupil's educational and personal development.
Requirements
- Be confident using British Sign Supported English.
- Ideally have previous experience working as a Communication Support Worker, although this is desirable rather than essential.
- Be organised, proactive and able to manage your workload effectively.
- Demonstrate excellent communication, listening, observation and empathy skills.
- Be confident working independently while also being a strong team player.
