We are seeking an experienced and practical Mechanical Maintenance Fitter to join our team. This varied role combines workshop-based duties with work at customer sites, maintaining, repairing, overhauling and installing a broad range of industrial equipment.The successful candidate will work closely with our multi-skilled team of electricians, fabricators and welders to deliver complete, turnkey engineering solutions for customers across a range of industries.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out planned and reactive mechanical maintenance in the workshop and at customer sites.
- Install, commission and relocate industrial machinery and equipment.
- Diagnose mechanical faults and carry out effective repairs.
- Strip, inspect, overhaul and rebuild electric motors, gearboxes, pumps and other rotating equipment.
- Perform equipment alignment, levelling and mechanical fitting to the required tolerances.
- Read and interpret engineering drawings, manuals and technical specifications.
- Assess worn or damaged components and identify suitable repair or replacement solutions.
- Work closely with fabricators, welders and other trades to manufacture, modify and install complete systems.
- Provide practical input into the design and delivery of turnkey engineering projects.
- Complete maintenance records, inspection reports and other job documentation accurately.
- Follow company and customer health, safety, quality and environmental procedures.
- Maintain tools, equipment and a clean, safe working environment.
- Represent the company professionally while working at customer premises.
Skills and Experience
- Proven experience as a mechanical fitter, maintenance fitter, service engineer or similar.
- Strong mechanical fault-finding and problem-solving skills.
- Experience overhauling motors, gearboxes, pumps and rotating machinery.
- Knowledge of bearings, seals, shafts, couplings, drive systems and mechanical transmission equipment.
- Experience installing and aligning industrial machinery.
- Ability to use hand tools, power tools, measuring equipment and workshop machinery safely.
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings and technical information.
- Comfortable working independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Good communication skills and a practical, flexible approach to work.
- Willingness to travel to customer sites and work outside normal hours when required.
- A full driving licence is required.
Qualifications
- Recognised mechanical engineering apprenticeship or relevant vocational qualification.
- Relevant health and safety training would be advantageous.
- Forklift, lifting equipment, confined-space, working-at-height or site-safety certifications would be beneficial.
