Job Summary:
The South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust (SLaM) invites applications for a skilled and dedicated Specialty Doctor to join our psychiatric services. This role involves providing high-quality clinical care under the supervision of consultant psychiatrists and contributing to multidisciplinary team working within inpatient or community mental health settings.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide comprehensive psychiatric assessment and management of patients within your clinical area.
- Prescribe and monitor psychotropic medications safely and effectively.
- Participate in ward rounds, multidisciplinary meetings, and care planning.
- Work collaboratively with consultants, junior doctors, nursing staff, and allied health professionals.
- Contribute to the supervision and training of junior medical staff and students.
- Maintain accurate, timely medical records and complete required clinical documentation.
- Engage in audit, quality improvement, and clinical governance activities.
- Participate in on-call duties as per rota, including emergency psychiatric care.
- Support patient and family education regarding mental health conditions and treatment plans.
- Comply with Trust policies, mental health legislation, and ethical standards.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Medical degree with full GMC registration and a valid license to practice.
- Relevant clinical experience post-Foundation, ideally with prior experience in psychiatry or mental health.
- Completion of at least 4 years of postgraduate medical training, with experience equivalent to ST4 or above desirable.
- ILS and ALS certification (or willingness to obtain).
- Knowledge of the Mental Health Act and Mental Capacity Act is desirable.
