Oldercare (Haslemere) Ltd is seeking to recruit a full-time Maintenance Assistant to support the safe and effective maintenance of the St Magnus site.
This is a practical hands-on role within a hospital and nursing care environment. The successful candidate will support the Head of Maintenance with planned and reactive maintenance, minor repairs, water safety tasks, access control systems, porterage, emergency response and general site upkeep.
The role involves working around vulnerable patients and residents, so applicants must be professional, respectful, safety-conscious and able to work with discretion in a regulated care environment.
Main duties
Duties will include:
- Carrying out general maintenance tasks across the St Magnus site.
- Completing minor plumbing, carpentry, fixtures, fittings and general fabric repairs.
- Responding to maintenance requests and making safe hazards where required.
- Supporting planned preventative maintenance tasks.
- Completing water safety tasks, including temperature checks, flushing, outlet checks, meter readings and associated records.
- Maintaining keypads, Salto and Paxton access systems, including repairs, replacements and associated tasks following training.
- Undertaking porterage duties, including moving furniture, setting up rooms and clearing areas after use.
- Supporting emergency response to issues such as leaks, floods, heating failure, water disruption, power issues or access control faults.
- Keeping accurate maintenance records, logs and job sheets.
- Supporting contractors on site as instructed.
- Complying with COSHH, health and safety requirements, infection control procedures and company policies.
- Undertake on-call duties as per the duty rota (Out of hours service)
- Carrying out any other reasonable duties within the overall function of the role.
The successful applicant will have
Essential:
- Previous general maintenance experience.
- Practical skills in minor repairs, basic plumbing, basic carpentry and general building maintenance.
- Full UK driving licence.
- Good understanding of workplace health and safety.
- Ability to keep accurate records.
- Ability to work safely and respectfully around vulnerable patients and residents.
- Ability to work independently and escalate concerns appropriately.
- Right to work in the United Kingdom.
- Willingness to participate in the on-call rota.
Desirable:
- NVQ or equivalent qualification in maintenance, building services or a relevant trade.
- Previous experience in a healthcare, care home, hospital, secure or regulated environment.
- Experience with Salto, Paxton, keypad or access control systems.
- Experience with water temperature checks, flushing regimes or Legionella control support tasks.
- COSHH, manual handling or infection control awareness.
Working pattern
Full-time.
Core working hours are Monday to Friday 8am-4pm, with participation in the on-call rota.
