Job Summary
Charleston is a place that brings people together to engage with art and ideas.
The modernist home and studio of the painters Vanessa Bell and Duncan Grant, Charleston was a gathering point for some of the 20th century's most radical artists, writers and thinkers known collectively as the Bloomsbury Group.
Today, Charleston presents a dynamic year-round programme of exhibitions, festivals and events across its historic Sussex home and Charleston in Lewes.
In Lewes, visitors can explore exhibitions, browse the shop, enjoy the caf , and participate in community projects, artist-led workshops and educational programmes for schools and higher education groups. Opened in 2023, Charleston in Lewes is the first step towards a permanent Bloomsbury gallery that will bring 100 of the most important Bloomsbury works back to Sussex.
Job Requirements
We are looking for someone who is passionate about working with people from all sections of the community and who can inspire, support and coordinate a team of staff and volunteers to deliver exceptional customer service. The successful candidate will have excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills, strong IT and troubleshooting abilities, and a meticulous attention to detail.
You will be confident managing and prioritising a varied workload, able to work independently using your own initiative.
Experience supervising a customer-facing team within a heritage venue, arts space, museum, gallery or similar environment is essential, along with a clear understanding of the valuable role volunteers play within an organisation.
You will have a flexible, hands-on approach to teamwork, and demonstrate a strong commitment to accessibility and equality.
