The Role
As a Field Service Engineer, you will represent Allan J Hargreaves Plant Engineers Ltd at customer sites, undertaking the inspection, maintenance, fault diagnosis, repair, modification and upgrade of specialist rail and construction equipment.
You'll work independently and as part of a wider engineering team, supporting customer operations across the UK while ensuring all work is completed safely, efficiently and to the highest engineering standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Diagnose and rectify mechanical, hydraulic and electrical faults on rail and construction plant equipment
- Carry out planned maintenance, inspections and scheduled servicing
- Complete machinery modifications, upgrades and improvement projects
- Install and commission safety and productivity systems
- Conduct LOLER and PUWER inspections
- Provide product support and technical assistance to customers
- Interpret technical drawings, schematics and diagnostic information
- Manage workload and customer commitments effectively
- Participate in the development and testing of innovative new machinery and engineering solutions
- Complete all required documentation and reports accurately
- Ensure compliance with company procedures, rail standards and health & safety requirements always
What We're Looking For
Essential
- NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in Engineering, Construction Plant or a related discipline
- Full UK Driving Licence
- Minimum 2 years' experience working with plant machinery, construction equipment, HGVs or similar heavy equipment
- Strong fault-finding and diagnostic abilities
- Ability to work independently and manage workloads effectively
- Excellent communication and customer-facing skills
Desirable
- Class 2 driver’s licence
- Personal Track Safety (PTS) Certification
- Road-Rail maintenance competency or RPA certification
- Ability to operate plant machinery, equipment and attachments
- Understanding of legislation and regulations relating to plant, vehicles and equipment
- Rail industry experience.
- Knowledge of hydraulic, pneumatic and electrical systems.
