Title: Reuse Hub Van Driver
Reporting to: Reuse Hub Coordinator
Rate of pay: £6,994/£13.45 per hour (Remake are proud to be an accredited Real Living Wage employer)
Hours: 10 hours per week. Usual working hours of Wednesday and Friday 9.15am-2.15pm with occasional flexibility for other working days.
Based: In person at Remake’s Reuse Hub in Crieff.
Duration: Fixed-term 12 month contract initially with extension subject to funding.
Holiday entitlement: 74 hours per year (inclusive of public/bank holiday entitlement)

Van Driver – Collections, Deliveries & Recycling
Job Purpose
As our Van Driver, you will play an important role in supporting Remake’s reuse, recycling and community activities. You will be responsible for carrying out collections and deliveries using Remake’s 3-tonne van, ensuring donated goods are transported safely and efficiently while providing an excellent service to customers, volunteers and community partners.
You will be an important ambassador for Remake when out in the community, promoting our environmental message and demonstrating our mission, vision and ethical values through everything you do.
The role is practical and active, involving driving, loading and unloading goods, maintaining the vehicle to a high standard and responsibly disposing of waste at the local recycling centre.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
Collections & Deliveries
- Drive Remake’s 3-tonne van safely and responsibly for scheduled collections and deliveries.
- Collect donated furniture, household goods and other reusable items from members of the public, businesses and community partners across central Scotland.
- Deliver furniture and other goods safely to customers, community projects and other appropriate locations across central Scotland.
- Safely load, secure, transport and unload goods, ensuring appropriate manual handling techniques are followed.
- Work efficiently to planned collection and delivery schedules while providing a friendly and professional service.
- Communicate clearly with customers and members of the public regarding collection and delivery arrangements. Contact and confirm dates and times with customers working in conjunction with the Reuse Hub team.
- Ensure all goods are handled with care and consideration for customers’ homes, property and belongings.
Vehicle Care & Maintenance
- Maintain the Remake 3-tonne van and our smaller diesel van to a consistently high standard of cleanliness, presentation and safety.
- Carry out routine daily vehicle checks, reporting any faults, damage or maintenance requirements promptly.
- Ensure the vehicle is always clean and presentable, both inside and out.
- Keep the loading area organised and free from unnecessary waste, debris and hazards.
- Ensure the vehicle is appropriately loaded and that all goods are securely restrained in accordance with relevant regulations and Remake procedures.
- Maintain accurate records relating to vehicle checks, mileage, fuel, maintenance and any incidents or defects.
- Ensure the vehicle is used responsibly and in accordance with Remake’s policies and procedures and with due environmental concerns in terms of mileage efficiencies.
Recycling & Waste Management
- Sort collected materials appropriately, identifying items suitable for reuse, recycling or responsible disposal.
- Transport non-reusable waste to the local recycling centre and ensure materials are disposed of responsibly.
- Follow local recycling and waste-management requirements and Remake’s environmental policies.
- Help minimise waste by identifying opportunities for reuse, repair and recycling wherever possible.
- Maintain high standards of cleanliness and organisation when handling waste and recyclable materials.
- Reinforce Remake’s commitment to reducing waste and promoting a circular economy through your work and interactions with customers.
Working with Volunteers
- Work alongside Remake volunteers during collections, deliveries, loading, unloading and other activities.
- Provide practical support and guidance to volunteers where appropriate.
- Encourage a positive, inclusive and respectful working environment.
- Support volunteers to understand the importance of reuse, recycling and responsible waste management.
- Lead by example, demonstrating Remake’s values, standards and commitment to environmental responsibility.
- Ensure that volunteers working alongside you follow appropriate health and safety and manual-handling procedures.
Environmental Ambassador
- Act as a positive ambassador for Remake when representing the organisation in the community.
- Promote Remake’s mission and vision and communicate the benefits of reuse, recycling and reducing waste.
- Encourage customers and members of the public to consider reuse before disposal.
- Build positive relationships with customers, community groups, local organisations and members of the public.
- Represent Remake professionally and ethically at all times.
- Ensure your behaviour and conduct reflect Remake’s values and commitment to environmental sustainability.
- Help raise awareness of Remake’s work and the positive environmental and social impact of keeping items in use.
Health, Safety & Compliance
- Follow all Remake health and safety policies and procedures.
- Carry out manual handling safely when moving furniture and other bulky goods.
- Use appropriate personal protective equipment when required, including steel toe capped footwear at all times.
- Maintain a safe working environment during collections, deliveries and waste disposal.
- Report accidents, incidents, vehicle defects and hazards promptly.
- Ensure goods are transported securely and safely at all times.
- Undertake relevant training as required by Remake.
- Support safeguarding procedures when working with volunteers, young people and vulnerable adults.
Person Specification
Essential Skills & Experience
- Full, clean driving licence appropriate for driving Remake’s 3-tonne van.
- Confident and responsible driver with a strong commitment to road safety.
- Physically fit and able to undertake regular lifting, loading, unloading and manual handling.
- Reliable, punctual and able to work independently.
- Good organisational skills and the ability to manage a schedule of collections and deliveries.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong customer-service skills and a professional, friendly approach.
- Commitment to environmental sustainability, reuse and recycling.
- Ability to work positively alongside volunteers and colleagues.
- Good attention to detail, particularly regarding vehicle checks, safety and the handling of goods.
- Willingness to work flexibly, including some evenings and weekends where required.

Desirable Skills & Experience
- Previous experience driving a 3-tonne or similar-sized vehicle/van.
- Experience of furniture collections, deliveries, removals, logistics or warehouse work.
- Experience working with volunteers or community groups.
- Knowledge of recycling, waste management, reuse or the circular economy.
- Experience working within an environmental, charity, community or retail organisation.
- Basic vehicle maintenance knowledge.
- Experience working at a recycling centre or waste transfer facility.
