Job Overview
We are seeking a dedicated Night Vehicle Breakdown Recovery Controller to oversee and coordinate the recovery of vehicles experiencing breakdowns during night shifts. The successful candidate will play a vital role in ensuring prompt assistance to stranded drivers, maintaining safety standards, and managing recovery operations efficiently. This position offers an engaging environment for individuals with a passion for vehicle recovery, logistics, and effective communication. The role involves working overnight hours, primarily during the night, with responsibilities that demand organisational skills and mechanical understanding.
Hours & Rota
- Shift Pattern: 7 nights on, followed by 7 nights off.
- Shift Hours: 19:00 to 07:00 (7pm to 7am).
- This structured rota offers a fantastic work-life balance, giving you 26 weeks off a year!
Key Responsibilities
- Driver Management: Coordinate, dispatch, and manage our night-shift recovery drivers, ensuring they are deployed safely and efficiently to breakdown sites.
- Breakdown Planning: Assess incoming rescue requests, map out logistics, and plan the most effective vehicle movements across our network.
- Inbound Call Handling: Act as the first point of contact for stranded drivers, providing a reassuring, professional service while gathering critical incident details.
- Outbound Communication: Keep customers, commercial partners, and corporate fleets updated on estimated arrival times (ETAs) and recovery progress.
- System Logging: Accurately input incident data and track jobs from first call to successful completion.
What We Are Looking For
- Software Experience: Previous use of Apex RMS Breakdown Software is highly advantageous but not necessary, as training will be provided.
- Industry Experience: Experience in transport planning, logistics coordination, vehicle recovery dispatch, or a fast-paced control room environment.
- Communication Skills: A confident phone manner with the ability to manage both high-volume inbound calls and proactive outbound updates.
- Problem-Solving: The ability to stay calm under pressure and make logical routing and deployment decisions during busy periods.
- Vetting Requirements: Due to the nature of our work and contracts, the successful candidate must pass Police Vetting and a Basic CRB/DBS check.
- Reliability: As a night-shift professional, your consistency and commitment to the 12-hour 7-on/7-off rotation are crucial.
What We Offer
- A highly competitive hourly rate tailored to your skills and experience.
- A predictable, structured rota allowing for excellent long-term planning outside of work.
- Full comprehensive, in-house operational training (including Apex system training if required).
- A stable career within a leading, growing UK transport organisation.
