About the role
We are looking for a motivated and practical individual to join our manufacturing team as a Trainee CNC Machinist and Workshop Operative.
This is an entry-level opportunity, so previous CNC or manufacturing experience is not essential. Full training, guidance and ongoing support will be provided.
The role would suit someone who enjoys practical work, has an interest in engineering or machinery, and is keen to learn a skilled trade. You will be trained to operate CNC lathes, milling machines and band saws while working alongside experienced members of the team.
Over time, you will develop the skills required to manufacture accurate components used across a range of industries.
What you will learn
You will receive hands-on training in:
· Operating CNC lathes and milling machines
· Cutting materials using industrial band saws
· Reading technical drawings and measurements
· Using hand tools and workshop equipment safely
· Checking finished components for accuracy and quality
· Understanding machining tolerances and basic engineering calculations
· Setting up tools and materials for production
· Carrying out basic machine checks and maintenance
· Supporting general workshop, assembly and fabrication activities
Your responsibilities
With training and supervision, you will:
· Assist with setting up and operating CNC machines
· Prepare and cut raw materials before machining
· Follow technical drawings and job instructions
· Measure and inspect completed components
· Keep machines, tools and working areas clean and organised
· Follow all company health and safety procedures
· Report any machine or quality issues to your supervisor
· Support other members of the production team when required
· Work carefully to ensure components meet the required specifications
What we are looking for
You do not need previous CNC experience. We are more interested in your attitude, reliability and willingness to learn.
You should:
· Have a genuine interest in engineering, manufacturing or practical work
· Be willing to learn new skills and follow instructions
· Be reliable, punctual and committed
· Have good attention to detail
· Be comfortable working with machinery and tools
· Be able to carry out basic maths and measurements
· Take health and safety seriously
· Be able to work effectively as part of a team
· Live within a reasonable travelling distance of Oldham
Experience gained through college, school, apprenticeships, personal projects, mechanics, construction or other practical work would be helpful but is not required.
Training and development
You will be supported by experienced team members who will help you develop your skills and confidence.
Full training will be provided, including:
· CNC machine operation
· Workshop safety
· Measuring and inspection equipment
· Reading engineering drawings
· Machine tooling and basic setup
· Quality control procedures
