Reach Family Project is a Bolton based charity supporting children, families and older people within our local community. Our Children & Families work has a particular focus on families raising children and young people with SEND. We aim to provide practical, accessible and compassionate support that helps parents feel listened to, supported and less alone. We are looking for someone who shares our passion for making a meaningful difference to SEND families.
We are looking for an organised, compassionate and motivated Children & Families SEND Support Co-ordinator to join our team. This is a varied role combining SEND family support, volunteer co-ordination, project administration and the day-to-day organisation of our Children & Families services.
We are looking for someone who has a good understanding of SEND and the challenges that can be faced by children, young people and their families. This may have been gained through lived experience, employment or volunteering. You do not need to have previously worked specifically in a family support role, but you will need to have a genuine passion for supporting SEND families and making a positive difference to their lives.
About the role
You will take responsibility for co-ordinating our Children & Families SEND support, including our Listening Ear project, which provides parents and carers of children with SEND with individual support from trained volunteers. The role will include:
- Carrying out initial assessments with parents and carers referred to the Listening Ear project.
- Matching families with appropriate volunteers and regularly reviewing and supporting those matches.
- Providing information, practical support and a listening ear to parents and carers of children with SEND. Recruiting, inducting, supporting and overseeing Children & Families volunteers.
- Supporting the planning and delivery of SEND groups, activities, events and family support.
- Administrating requests for family and crisis support and ensuring appropriate records and follow-up are maintained.
- Maintaining accurate and confidential records using our charity database. Managing project emails, referrals and correspondence.
- Organising room and venue bookings. Planning and reviewing project activity to ensure our services continue to respond to the needs of local SEND families.
- Gathering feedback, outcomes and information to demonstrate the difference our services make.
- Working alongside the wider Reach team, volunteers and partner organisations.
About you
We are looking for someone who:
- Has strong administration and organisational skills.
- Can confidently manage a varied workload and prioritise competing tasks.
- Has the ability to plan, review and lead areas of project activity.
- Has a good understanding of SEND and the challenges faced by children, young people and their families, gained through lived experience and/or previous employment or volunteering.
- Has excellent written and verbal communication skills. Is confident communicating sensitively and professionally with parents and carers.
- Can build positive and supportive relationships with families and volunteers. Is confident using email, databases and everyday IT systems.
- Has a genuine passion for improving support and opportunities for SEND families.
- Is able to drive and travel between project locations within Bolton.
The role is 16 hours per week, worked over three days, there will be some evening working required. Mondays are a required working day, with the remaining two working days to be agreed with the successful applicant.
Some flexibility will occasionally be required to support project events and activities.
Contract This is a 12-month fixed-term position from September 2026. Salary £11,523.20 per year, based on 16 hours per week at £13.85 per hour.

Reach Family Project is committed to safeguarding the people who use our services. The successful applicant will be required to undertake an Enhanced DBS check, which Reach Family Project will arrange as part of the onboarding process.
