Role Description -
Senior Practitioners at First Adventures lead and supervise staff within one of the Nursery’s three area teams. They ensure staff follow procedures, meet expected standards of practice and provide support in situations which require it. They also participate in the staff appraisal process regarding the staff they supervise.
They have immediate responsibility for the delivery of care within their area and have a degree of devolved decision making commensurate with this. From time to time, they are also expected to undertake broader site-wide duties or responsibilities, as required by the Nursery.

QUALIFICATIONS
● SVQ3 / HNC or HND in Early Learning & Childcare [ESSENTIAL]
● Registration with the SSSC in a childcare role ESSENTIAL]
● Further or Higher Qualifications in Early Learning & Childcare [DESIRABLE]
● The willingness to work towards higher qualifications in childcare [DESIRABLE]
ROLE SPECIFIC KNOWLEDGE
Senior Practitioners would be expected to be able to able to:
- Discuss the responsibilities of the role in the context of child development with reference to relevant standards and supported by examples that demonstrate creative application of a variety of different strategies in practice. [ESSENTIAL]
- Discuss the responsibilities of the role in the context of child protection and safeguarding with accurate and complete reference to codes of practice. [ESSENTIAL]
- Discuss the responsibilities of an employee towards their colleagues and show evidence of having led, or sought the opportunity to lead, mentoring, training or other activities. [ESSENTIAL]
- Demonstrate an independent interest in ELC policy or practice with reference to either their own professional development or practice. [ESSENTIAL]
ROLE SPECIFIC EXPERIENCE
A Senior Practitioner must have the following:
- >2 years of experience as a practitioner in the same setting. [ESSENTIAL]
In addition to this, it would be usual for a candidate to have:
- Previous experience as a senior practitioner or in another responsible role. [DESIRABLE]
- Substantial experience of several different settings (e.g. periods of >1 year in two or three previous settings) over the course of their career to date. [DESIRABLE]
and/or
- Longer experience in a single setting that demonstrates growth, development towards leadership responsibilities. [DESIRABLE]
Pay: From £30,264.00 per year
