Job Description:
You will provide effective management and directorship of the administrative, financial, and technical aspects of the assigned environmental program(s) as well as provide direct mission support to host and tenant organizations at the installation. This will include monitoring and managing assigned environmental projects through application of professional knowledge and skill in practices, processes and techniques.
You will be responsible for executing assigned projects, in-house and by contract, to comply with all applicable Federal, State, and local environmental laws and policies and coordinate curricula and training for assigned program areas at the installation.
This role involves complying with health, safety, and environmental rules and procedures, and performing work that enhances the safety of the work environment and providing advisory services on questions, issues, and projects in assigned program areas.
Qualifications and Key skills:
A valid UK driver's license (Category B) is required for the position in addition to the following depending which category you fall under:
- General Engineer/ Environmental Engineer - A degree in an appropriate scientific field plus one year of specialized experience demonstrating the required key skills listed below or HND/City and Guilds/ NVQ Level 5/6 in an appropriate scientific field. Progressively more years of specialized experience (as outlined in the key skills) are required for qualifications below degree level.
- Community Planner: A degree in Community planning; or related field plus one year of specialized experience as per the required key skills.
- Biological Scientist: A degree: biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position or related field plus one year of specialized experience as per the required key skills.
- Physical Scientist: A degree: physical science, engineering, or mathematics that included 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science such as mechanics, dynamics, properties of materials, and electronics position or related field plus one year of specialized experience as per the required key skills.
Key skills:
- Knowledge of professional environmental principles, practices, techniques, and procedures to effectively perform project development, execution, training, and advisory services in assigned projects.
- Knowledge to troubleshoot environmental problems requiring investigation of unsanitary or questionable conditions in assigned projects or program(s).
- Knowledge of applicable Federal, State, and local laws, regulations, integration principles and practices, and other guidance to make decisions and recommendations concerning assigned restoration, compliance, conservation, pollution prevention, and/or integration principles and practices; and health, safety, and security practices.
- Skill to integrate an interdisciplinary team of professionals to include attorneys, public health specialists, public affairs specialists, biological scientists, environmental engineers, physical scientists, general engineers, community planners, regulators, other governmental officials, and community groups.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, clearly, concisely, and with technical accuracy, and establish effective working relationships with others
Conditions of employment
- You will be required to handle and safeguard sensitive information in accordance with applicable US and UK laws, rules and regulations. This position may also be coded as mission essential.
- You may be required to travel by military and/or civilian aircraft, and you may also be required to travel to the US or other country, in the performance of official duties or attend necessary training.
- You will be required to complete a 6-month probationary period.
- Start & end times may be modified due to mission needs and in accordance with organization’s flexible working policies. Overtime may be required and you may be assigned other duties not included in this position description, but that are appropriate to the grade and skill set of the incumbent.
- You must be able to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
- You may be required to serve as a member of the Emergency Response Force during exercises or in the event of an actual emergency.
- You may be required to obtain job-related certifications.
- You may be required to work other than normal duty hours, which may include evenings, weekends, and/or holidays.
- You may be required to facilitate an on-call function over a 24-hour period covering 7 days a week as per the manning roster, but is not guaranteed. For every calendar day of the year, one member of this roster will be designated as being on-call and the designee must be available on a standby basis. On-call status requires the designee to: (a) be in good health on their on-call days and be able to perform their job responsibilities on short notice; (b) refrain from activities that impair their ability to perform job duties, e.g., alcohol or drug use; (c) be in a position to provide an initial response by telephone within 10 minutes of being called; (d) remain within a 45-minute commuting radius from the installation; (e) keep the necessary transportation and telecommunication available to respond as described in items (c) and (d) above. On-call allowance is activated only during the period of time the employee is performing the function of the on-call responsibilities. On-call allowance is not payable during periods of leave, sick absence, or when employee is not rostered.
