Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated Commis Chef & Kitchen Assistant to join our kitchen team. We serve homemade pub food. This role involves supporting the kitchen operations through food preparation, assisting with cold meal service, general kitchen cleaning and helping with washing up if no KP present. Maintaining high standards of food safety and cleanliness. The ideal candidate will have a passion for cooking and a keen interest in developing their culinary skills within a professional environment. This position offers an excellent opportunity to gain valuable experience and work alongside experienced chefs in a busy kitchen setting.
Responsibilities
- Assist in the preparation of ingredients and basic food items in line with menu requirements, including preparation of vegetables
- Support the cooking process by preparing components for dishes under supervision
- Maintain cleanliness and organisation of workstations, adhering to food safety standards
- Help with cold meal assembly and presentation to ensure quality service during busy periods
- Follow all hygiene, safety, and sanitation procedures to uphold health standards
- Support the team during service hours by ensuring smooth kitchen operations
- Washing up when no KP present, usually during quieter times or sickness cover.
- Contribute to a positive team environment by demonstrating professionalism and teamwork.
Hours
16 hours per week, more during busy periods, ideally 1100-1500 hours but willing to discuss for right candidate
Experience
- Previous experience in a kitchen environment or restaurant or pub kitchen setting is preferred but not essential; full training will be provided for suitable candidates, this position would suit someone keen to learn and progress within a hardworking supportive team but also able to listen to management direction.
- Knowledge of food preparation techniques and culinary practices is advantageous but not essential.
- Familiarity with food safety regulations and hygiene standards is desirable but not essential.
- A genuine interest in cooking, learning new skills, is essential
