The post will provide funded time for a GP to pursue their research interests in primary care infection, supported by the Centre for Academic Primary Care Infection Research Group (CAPC-IRG), established in 2001 by Professor Alastair Hay. The CAPC-IRG is a multi-disciplinary group (GPs, epidemiologists, microbiologists, social scientists, statisticians, trialists, health economists) dedicated to improving the use of antibiotics in primary care, where 90% of all infections are managed and 80% of all health service antibiotics are prescribed. The group’s research seeks to inform and improve decision making at each step of the ‘patient pathway’, from infection acquisition to patient-healthcare professional interactions, antibiotic prescribing and antibiotic consumption.
