At Octavius Infrastructure, we're offering an exciting opportunity to join our South West team as an Apprentice Engineer, undertaking a Level 6 Degree Apprenticeship whilst working on major civil engineering and infrastructure projects.

You'll be working on…
As an Apprentice Engineer, you'll support the successful delivery of civil engineering projects across our South West business.
Working alongside experienced engineers and project teams, you'll gain practical experience in:
- Setting out and surveying activities.
- Site engineering and quality assurance.
- Production of engineering records and documentation.
- Health, safety and environmental management.
- Method statements and risk assessments.
- Planning and programming works.
- Cost control and commercial awareness.
- Design coordination and technical problem solving.
- Supervising subcontractors and site activities.
As your experience develops, you'll take on increasing responsibility and play an active role in the safe and efficient delivery of projects.
Occasional travel and periods of working away from home may be required depending on project locations.
You'll work with…
You'll collaborate with Site Managers, Engineers, Project Managers, Quantity Surveyors and other construction professionals to deliver essential infrastructure projects.
Building positive relationships with colleagues, suppliers, clients and local communities will be an important part of your role as you learn how major projects are successfully delivered.
About you…
We're looking for someone who has already demonstrated a commitment to a career in engineering or construction and is now looking to progress to the next level.
You may have:
- Completed a Level 3 or Level 4 qualification or apprenticeship in Civil Engineering, Construction or a related discipline.
- Practical experience working within construction, highways, infrastructure or civil engineering.
- Previous exposure to site engineering activities, including setting out.
- A desire to continue your education through a Degree Apprenticeship whilst gaining valuable industry experience.
Most importantly, you'll be proactive, eager to learn, and committed to developing a long-term career within the industry.
You'll bring…
- Previous experience within construction, civil engineering or infrastructure projects.
- A Level 3 or Level 4 qualification/apprenticeship in a relevant discipline, or equivalent industry experience.
- An understanding of basic engineering principles and site operations.
- Experience or knowledge of setting out activities would be highly beneficial.
- Strong communication and organisational skills.
- A positive attitude and willingness to learn.
- A proactive approach to problem solving.
- GCSE Grade 4 (or equivalent) in Maths and English.
- The entry requirements necessary to enrol onto a Level 6 Degree Apprenticeship.
- A full UK driving licence.
One of the projects you'll have the opportunity to support is the Banwell Bypass, a major £105 million highways scheme in North Somerset. The project will deliver a new 3.3km single carriageway road connecting the A371 and A368, helping to reduce congestion through Banwell village, improve journey reliability, enhance road safety and support future growth in the area. The scheme also includes new walking, cycling and horse-riding routes, alongside significant environmental and biodiversity improvements.
The bypass is one of the most significant infrastructure investments in North Somerset in recent years and will provide lasting benefits for local communities by improving connectivity to the M5 and surrounding areas.
As part of the project team, you'll gain hands-on experience supporting the delivery of major civil engineering works, including:
- Highway drainage systems and associated infrastructure.
- Structures and culvert construction.
- Kerbing, highway tie-ins and roadworks.
- Utility diversion works and stakeholder coordination.
- Quality assurance, site engineering and project documentation.
- Environmental and community-focused infrastructure delivery.
