Job Summary
We are seeking a reliable and experienced Shunter Driver to join our logistics team. The successful candidate will be responsible for manoeuvring heavy goods vehicles, primarily flatbed lorries, within our premises and ensuring the safe and efficient movement of vehicles and cargo. This role offers an excellent opportunity for individuals with a background in commercial driving and delivery operations to contribute to a dynamic transportation environment.
Working hours: Monday to Friday 6am-2pm or 2pm-10pm
Pay rate: £17.50 per hour
Duties
- To direct and control the movement and positioning of lorries and other machinery on the site
- To use hand signals, radios and other communication devices to relay instructions to drivers and operators
- Ensuring that vehicles and equipment are correctly positioned for loading, unloading and for other operations
- To signal lorries, general organisation of the yard and to move large products
- Communicating effectively with Team Leaders and Management to resolve issues promptly
- Maintaining a strong focus on Health & Safety, ensuring the well-being of yourself and your colleagues
- Report any incidents or near misses promptly to management.
Requirements
- Valid driving licence with a clean driving record; experience in commercial driving is essential.
- Proven experience as a delivery driver or in a similar role involving flatbed or heavy goods vehicle operation.
- Knowledge of safe driving practices, vehicle handling, and cargo securing techniques.
- Ability to operate flatbed lorries confidently in various manoeuvres within confined spaces.
- Excellent organisational skills with attention to detail for record keeping and safety checks.
- Physical fitness to handle loading/unloading tasks when necessary.
- Flexibility to work shifts as required; punctuality and reliability are essential qualities for this role.
