About the Role
We are looking for a genuinely hands-on, practical and self-motivated person to take ownership of our premises, warehouse, yard, equipment and company vehicles.
This is not a desk-based management role, and it is not a job where you will be given a list of tasks every morning. We need someone who walks into a building or workshop, notices what needs doing and gets it done.
One day you might be repairing a tap, hanging shelving or touching up paintwork. The next you could be organising the warehouse, checking equipment, preparing tools for our site teams or arranging maintenance on a company vehicle.
We can teach you our systems, fleet compliance requirements and the asbestos-specific elements of the role. What we cannot teach is practical ability, initiative, attention to detail and pride in your work. You need to bring those with you.
What You'll Be Responsible For
Property & General Maintenance
You'll take day-to-day ownership of the condition of our office, warehouse and yard.
This includes:
- General handyman work and minor repairs
- Basic plumbing, including taps, leaks, blocked drains and filtration systems
- Minor electrical tasks within your competence
- Hanging shelves, frames, fixtures and equipment
- Basic carpentry, patching, filling and minor building repairs
- Painting, decorating and touch-ups
- Installing and assembling appliances, furniture and office equipment
- Keeping the premises looking clean, tidy and properly maintained
- Spotting maintenance issues and dealing with them before somebody has to ask
We expect jobs to be finished properly - installed, level, working, cleaned up and complete. Not 90% finished with somebody else having to come behind you.
Warehouse, Yard & Equipment
You will take ownership of keeping a busy operational warehouse and yard organised and ready for our site teams.
You'll be responsible for:
- Keeping tools, stock and equipment properly organised
- Preparing equipment for upcoming jobs
- Checking equipment when it returns from site
- Testing and identifying damaged or faulty equipment
- Separating defective equipment from working stock
- Managing warranty returns and repairs
- Stock checks and ordering consumables
- Maintaining designated storage and staging areas
- Keeping the workshop, yard and storage areas clean and safe
- Managing skips and waste areas
- Making sure our teams can find the equipment they need when they need it
Our warehouse contains specialist asbestos equipment, including Type H vacuums, NPUs and DCUs. Previous asbestos experience is not required — we will provide the necessary training. The role does, however, require someone comfortable learning how equipment works and maintaining it properly.
Vehicles & Fleet
You don't need to arrive knowing our fleet compliance systems. We can teach you that. You do need to be mechanically minded and comfortable looking after vehicles.
Responsibilities include:
- Routine vehicle condition checks
- Basic servicing and preventative maintenance
- Oil and filter changes
- Brake pads and other basic mechanical work
- Minor cosmetic/bodywork repairs
- Replacing simple components such as mirrors, lights and trim
- Keeping vehicles clean and presentable
- Identifying defects before they become bigger problems
- Arranging external repairs where specialist work is required
- Keeping vehicle equipment properly organised
You'll also be trained to manage MOTs, servicing schedules and our fleet records so that vehicles remain compliant and operational.
The Person We're Looking For
This section is more important to us than having the perfect CV.
You need to be someone who is:
- Genuinely practical and good with their hands
- Naturally organised
- Resourceful and capable of solving problems
- Comfortable using tools
- Mechanically minded
- Able to work independently
- Someone who finishes what they start
- Particular about things being clean, straight, level and done properly
- Comfortable learning something new when you haven't done it before
- Proactive rather than waiting to be given instructions
- Confident enough to take ownership of your area
- Sensible enough to recognise when something genuinely requires a specialist
If your first instinct when you encounter something unfamiliar is to investigate it, read the instructions, work out how it operates and find a solution, you'll probably suit this role.
If you need somebody to continuously tell you what to do next, this probably isn't the right position.
