Now Education are recruiting Teaching Assistants to work within a specialist school supporting primary-aged pupils with complex SEMH, Autism and communication and interaction needs.
We are currently recruiting for a full-time Teaching Assistant, whilst also welcoming applications from experienced education professionals looking for part-time or flexible supply work within the setting.

About the Role
The successful candidates will support pupils with a range of complex needs, including Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs, Autism and communication and interaction difficulties.
For the full-time position, you will initially work closely with a primary-aged pupil on a 1:1 basis. The pupil currently receives education separately from their peers due to difficulties with emotional regulation and feelings of overwhelm.
You will play a key role in supporting the pupil to develop:
- Emotional and self-regulation
- Communication skills
- Social interaction
- Confidence and independence
- Engagement with learning
- Positive relationships and coping strategies
The longer-term aim is to support a carefully planned and gradual reintegration into the classroom environment.
You may also be required to support other pupils, groups and classes across the school depending on the needs of the setting.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide 1:1 and small-group support to pupils with SEMH and SEND needs
- Support children with Autism and communication difficulties
- Help pupils develop emotional regulation and positive coping strategies
- Encourage engagement with learning and classroom activities
- Build positive, trusting and consistent relationships
- Follow individual behaviour, support and risk management plans
- Use a trauma-informed approach when supporting pupils
- Promote independence, confidence and wellbeing
- Work closely with teachers, pastoral staff and other professionals
- Support pupils who may present behaviours that challenge
- Adapt your approach to meet individual sensory, social and emotional needs
The Ideal Candidate
We are looking for candidates who are calm, resilient, patient and confident when working with children with additional needs.
Previous experience within SEMH, SEND, Autism, specialist education or alternative provision is highly desirable.
You should have:
- Experience supporting children with SEMH needs
- Experience working with Autism/ASC
- Experience supporting pupils with challenging behaviour
- Strong relationship-building skills
- A patient and nurturing approach
- An understanding of trauma-informed practice
- An understanding of emotional regulation and attachment
- The ability to remain calm and consistent under pressure
- The ability to follow individual behaviour and risk management plans
Experience supporting pupils with Autism and communication and interaction difficulties is essential for the full-time position.
