Job Purpose
The Junior Buyer is responsible for supporting the procurement of raw materials, components, consumables and services required to meet business and customer requirements. Working closely with Production, Warehouse, Customer Service and Suppliers, the role ensures materials are available when required, purchase orders are managed effectively, and supplier performance is monitored to support operational objectives. Key Responsibilities
- Raise and manage purchase orders in line with production schedules, inventory requirements and business demand.
- Monitor supplier order acknowledgements and delivery schedules to ensure on-time supply of materials.
- Expedite outstanding purchase orders and proactively follow up on late deliveries.
- Maintain regular communication with suppliers regarding order status, lead times, shortages and delivery risks.
- Escalate supply issues that could impact production schedules, inventory availability or customer deliveries.
- Support sourcing activities by obtaining quotations and supplier information for review by the management team.
- Maintain accurate purchasing, supplier and pricing information within company systems.
- Work closely with Production, Warehouse and Supply Chain teams to support material planning activities.
- Monitor stock levels and assist with replenishment planning to maintain inventory targets.
- Support the resolution of supplier quality issues, returns, shortages and invoice discrepancies.
- Produce and maintain purchasing reports, supplier performance data and management information.
- Monitor supplier performance and highlight trends or concerns affecting service, quality or delivery.
- Identify opportunities for process improvements and operational efficiencies within the purchasing function.
- Ensure purchasing records and documentation are maintained accurately and in accordance with company procedures.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives across Procurement and Supply Chain functions.
- Carry out any other reasonable duties as required by the business.
Skills & ExperienceEssential

- Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Outlook and other business software.
- Strong numerical, analytical and problem-solving skills.

Desirable
- Previous experience in a Purchasing, Procurement, Supply Chain or Materials Planning role.
- Experience using ERP/MRP systems.
- Knowledge of Oracle E-Business Suite (EBS) or other ERP platforms.
- Understanding of procurement, inventory management and supply chain processes.
- Manufacturing or production environment experience.
- CIPS qualification or willingness to work towards achieving one.
- Interest in emerging technologies, including AI tools, and their application within purchasing, supply chain and business processes.
QualificationsEssential
- GCSEs (or equivalent) including Maths and English.
Desirable
- A-Level, BTEC or Degree in Business, Supply Chain, Procurement or a related discipline.
- CIPS Level 2 or Level 3 qualification.
