Robert Price Builders’ Merchants Ltd is a family run independent business, with head office in Abergavenny. Founded in 1847, we are a substantial local employer, with the developments and progressions of a modern large enterprise, and the grounding and values of a traditional family run business. We are the largest independent builders’ merchant in South East Wales.
What is a builders’ merchant?
A builders’ merchant is a company which supplies materials to the construction sector.
Up to 85% of the built environment you see around you is supplied by Britain’s builders’ merchants. Merchants and the supply chain are crucial to the construction industry which contributes over £40 billion to the UK economy each year. A career in this essential commercial sector can be challenging, varied and rewarding.
Hours:
40 hours per week average to be worked between the hours of 7:30am - 4:30pm from Monday to Friday plus 1 in 2 Saturday mornings.
Pay:
Negotiable according to experience.

Duties:
- Dealing with sales of our building materials and responding to general customer enquiries, in person, by email and on the phone
- Providing flexible cover for our counter sales, booking goods in and out using point of sale terminal
- Giving prices and quotations, processing orders, arranging deliveries and associated administration
- Assisting with stock control and placing orders
- Being responsible for the pro-active development of allocated customer accounts
- Assisting with merchandising, price labelling and stock management front of counter
Experience & Required Skills:
- Good selling skills with proven experience in a sales office position
- Able to consistently deliver a first-class customer service
- Able to develop new business accounts, build excellent customer relationships and maximise profitable opportunities for the Company
- Excellent numeracy, verbal and written communication skills
- Excellent I.T. skills (Excel, Outlook and Word especially)
- Administrative accuracy and efficiency and the ability to grasp new systems quickly and follow company procedures and instructions carefully and thoroughly
- Able to multitask, prioritise tasks wisely and complete them in a timely manner
- Enthusiasm, confidence and a proactive personality
- Good teamwork skills, but also able to work independently and with initiative
- Reliability and versatility
Highly Desirable:
A knowledge of building products and an interest in sales within the construction industry.
