About the Role
Business School England Ltd. is seeking a qualified and proactive IT Security & Data Compliance Specialist to oversee digital compliance frameworks, secure cloud infrastructure, and protect student and operational data. This non-operational, specialized role focuses on preventative cyber risk management, GDPR compliance, vulnerability auditing, and secure system architecture.
Key Responsibilities
- Cyber Security & Vulnerability Auditing: Perform regular security audits, threat assessments, and vulnerability scans across cloud platforms, internal databases, and student portals.
- Data Compliance & Protection (GDPR): Design, implement, and maintain strict data privacy controls and user access management policies to ensure full compliance with UK GDPR and data protection laws.
- Secure API & Integration Assessment: Audit third-party software vendors, web services, and API integrations (e.g., payment gateways, student portals, learning management systems) for technical security and privacy compliance.
- System Log & Incident Monitoring: Configure automated alert triggers, audit trails, and monitoring systems to detect and mitigate unauthorized access or data security anomalies.
- Fail-Safe System Design: Collaborate with management to establish disaster recovery plans, backup protocols, and secure system architectures tailored to higher education data requirements.
- Policy & Documentation: Maintain detailed technical documentation, security incident logs, and compliance records for institutional reporting.
Required Qualifications & Experience
- Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Big Data, Cyber Security, or a related technical discipline (RQF Level 6 equivalent).
- Technical Expertise: Demonstrated background in backend system architecture, microservices (e.g., Python/Django, AWS, PostgreSQL), or data/risk modeling.
- Security & Compliance Knowledge: Strong understanding of UK GDPR, data encryption, access control frameworks, and REST API security.
- Analytical Skills: Experience in threat analysis, risk engines, automated system testing, or data pipeline auditing.
- Communication: Ability to bridge regulatory requirements with technical system design and present findings clearly to organizational leadership.
