Job Title: Linen Porter
Reports To: Linen Supervisor
Base: Leamington Spa, with daily travel to Warwick Hospital
Hours: 37.5 hours per week
Job Purpose
To prepare, deliver and collect linen and laundry in line with contractual service requirements on a day-to-day basis.
The role will be primarily based at Leamington Spa, with a requirement to travel to Warwick Hospital each day once all duties at Leamington Spa have been completed. Travel between sites is an essential and core requirement of the role.
The successful candidate must hold a full, valid driving licence and have access to/use of a vehicle to enable travel between the two sites.
Communication & Working Relationships
Internal to Synergy: Account Manager, Linen Supervisor, Production Manager, Trainer and other employees of the Company.
External: Visitors and Health Service staff.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Assist in providing an effective and efficient customer liaison service to ensure all Synergy customers receive a high-quality service.
- Maintain effective communication between customers and Synergy personnel and ensure prompt action is taken in response to service requests or complaints.
- Coordinate deliveries and collections of linen from wards.
- Ensure Company policies and procedures are followed, particularly Health and Safety procedures and guidelines.
- Transfer linen from laundry cages and trolleys onto designated shelves.
- Accurately record information relating to linen stock levels.
- Take a flexible approach to work within the linen and laundry service.
- Participate in staff development and training initiatives.
- Safely operate and monitor relevant machinery and equipment, including the Master Mover, effectively and efficiently.
- Act responsibly when manoeuvring linen cages and remain aware of patients, staff, visitors and members of the general public.
- Travel from Leamington Spa to Warwick Hospital each day, once required duties at Leamington Spa have been completed, to undertake linen service duties at Warwick Hospital.
- Undertake any other duties or tasks reasonably required in connection with the role.
Essential Requirements
- Must hold a full, valid driving licence.
- Must have use of/access to a vehicle, as regular travel between Leamington Spa and Warwick Hospital is a core requirement of the role.
- Must hold, or be able to obtain, the appropriate DBS certificate/clearance required for the role.
- Must be able to undertake the physical requirements of the role, including regularly moving linen cages, trolleys and laundry items.
- Must be able to work flexibly according to operational requirements.

The jobholder will comply with the Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974 and other relevant legislation and is required to take reasonable care to avoid injury during the course of work and cooperate with the Trust's and Company's Health and Safety policies and statutory requirements.
The jobholder must use equipment and facilities provided in a proper and safe manner; refrain from misuse or interference with anything provided in the interests of health and safety; and report accidents, hazards and untoward incidents as soon as reasonably practicable, ensuring appropriate accident documentation is completed.

Special Working Conditions
Physical Effort: The role requires compliance with the Company's Manual Handling Policy and procedures when transferring linen and laundry items around Trust premises. This will involve regularly moving heavy items manually and using trolleys and cages.
Mental Effort: The postholder must maintain concentration and accuracy when carrying out routine duties, including checking customer requirements and linen stock.
Emotional Effort: There may be occasional exposure to distressing or emotionally challenging circumstances.
Working Conditions: The role may involve occasional exposure to unpleasant working conditions, including indirect exposure to bodily fluids.
Travel: Daily travel between Leamington Spa and Warwick Hospital forms an essential part of the role. The postholder must therefore maintain a valid driving licence and access to a suitable vehicle for the duration of their employment.
