About the role
Dunstable Downs Golf Club is seeking an enthusiastic and dependable Assistant Bar Manager to help oversee the day-to-day operation of our busy clubhouse bar.
This is a hands-on position combining excellent customer service with team supervision, stock control and event support. Working alongside the Bar Manager and General Manager, you will help ensure that members, visitors and function guests consistently receive a friendly, professional and efficient service.
The successful candidate will be confident leading a team during busy periods and willing to work flexibly around the club’s golf, social and function calendar.
Key responsibilities
- Support the daily management of the clubhouse bar and hospitality operation.
- Lead and motivate bar staff during assigned shifts.
- Deliver a welcoming and professional service to members, visitors and function guests.
- Open and close the bar, including cashing up and completing end-of-shift checks.
- Assist with staff rotas, shift cover and the training of new employees.
- Maintain appropriate stock levels and assist with ordering, deliveries and stocktakes.
- Monitor wastage, stock rotation and cellar management.
- Ensure the bar and customer areas remain clean, organised and well presented.
- Support the delivery of weddings, private functions, golf days and club events.
- Ensure compliance with licensing, food hygiene, health and safety and responsible alcohol-service requirements.
- Deal professionally with customer enquiries and resolve service issues where possible.
- Provide management cover when the Bar Manager is absent.
About you
You will ideally have:
- Previous experience in a bar, hospitality or clubhouse environment.
- Experience supervising or leading a team.
- Excellent customer-service and communication skills.
- Confidence handling cash and using electronic till systems.
- Good organisational skills and attention to detail.
- A calm and practical approach during busy periods.
- A reliable, positive and hands-on attitude.
- Flexibility to work evenings, weekends and bank holidays.
Experience of functions, weddings or golf-club hospitality would be advantageous. A personal licence and relevant food-hygiene qualification would also be desirable, although training can be provided.
