Cahoots NI is an award-winning children’s theatre company based in Belfast. We are looking for a motivated, creative LX Technician to join our team for a fixed-term engagement from October through December 2026.
We are looking for someone who is confident working in theatre and live-event environments, with strong practical and technical lighting skills. You will be required to operate shows independently, following your own cues, as well as to support the wider show operations as part of a tight-knit team.
The role requires an ability to work calmly and make good decisions under pressure, have great people skills, and excellent time-keeping.
This is an exciting, challenging and rewarding role that is well suited to someone who is technically strong, adaptable, and comfortable taking responsibility for the lighting requirements of a busy programme of work.
Job Title: LX Technician
Location: Cahoots Theatre, Cityside Retail and Leisure Park, Belfast
Dates : October – December 2026 (3 months, with potential to extend for future productions/
events on an adhoc basis)
Salary: TBC based on experience and hours
Key Responsibilities:
– Setting up, focusing and operating theatre lighting systems.
– Programming and operating lighting consoles for rehearsals, performances and events.
– Creating and adapting lighting cues in collaboration with directors, performers and creative teams.
– Rigging, patching and troubleshooting lighting equipment.
– Maintaining lighting equipment and ensuring all systems are operating safely and efficiently.
– Assisting with production fit-ups and technical rehearsals.
– Managing lighting plots, patch sheets and other technical documentation as required.
– Supporting with the safe packing of equipment for touring as required.
– Opening/closing venue space, as required.
Essential Skills and Experience:
– Proven experience as a Lighting Technician in theatre, live events or performance settings.
– Competence in lighting desk programming and operation. Advanced knowledge of ETC lighting
desk programming is essential.
– Good understanding of DMX networks, dimming systems and intelligent lighting fixtures.
– Ability to read and interpret lighting plans and technical drawings.
– Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work under pressure.
– A proactive and collaborative approach to working within a production team.
– Awareness of health and safety requirements when working at height and with electrical equipment.
