Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and passionate Nursery Chef to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for preparing nutritious and appealing meals for children in a nursery setting, ensuring that all food safety standards are met. This role offers an opportunity to contribute to the wellbeing and development of young children through wholesome meal preparation and culinary excellence. The Nursery Chef will work in a warm, friendly environment, supporting the daily nutritional needs of our young learners.
Responsibilities
- Prepare and cook healthy, age-appropriate meals and snacks for children in accordance with dietary guidelines and nutritional standards
- Maintain high standards of food safety, hygiene, and cleanliness in the kitchen at all times
- Manage stock levels, order supplies as needed, and ensure proper storage of ingredients
- Assist with setting up meal areas and serving food to children in a friendly and efficient manner
- Follow all health and safety regulations, including allergen management and food handling procedures
- Follow expected hygiene procedures for the kitchen including but not limited to correctly labelling food opened and maintaining correct hygiene records
- Collaborate with nursery staff to coordinate meal times and ensure smooth daily operations
- Keep accurate records of food preparation, storage, and disposal activities
Skills
- Proven experience in food preparation and cooking, ideally within a childcare or nursery environment
- Strong knowledge of food safety regulations and best practices in hygiene
- Ability to prepare nutritious meals that appeal to young children
- Excellent organisational skills with the ability to manage time effectively during busy periods
- Good communication skills to work collaboratively with nursery staff and caregivers
- Flexibility to adapt menus based on dietary needs or special occasions
- Previous experience working in a restaurant or catering setting is advantageous but not essential
- Serving experience is desirable, along with a genuine passion for providing healthy meals for children
