Role Purpose
The Production Team Leader is responsible for leading and coordinating a production team during the execution of manufacturing jobs, ensuring operations are completed safely, efficiently and to the required quality standards. The role involves operating and overseeing machinery, organising the team, delegating tasks, and ensuring that all personnel follow company procedures and health & safety requirements. The Team Leader acts as the primary point of control for the job on the shop floor.
Key Responsibilities
1. Production Operations
· Take responsibility for the day-to-day running of assigned production jobs.
· Ensure activities follow work instructions, batch sheets and operating procedures.
· Operate production equipment where required and support team members with machinery operation.
· Monitor production progress and ensure jobs are completed on time.
· Identify and resolve operational issues during production.
· Escalate significant issues to the Production Supervisor.
2. Team Leadership
· Lead and coordinate production operatives assigned to the job.
· Allocate tasks to maximise efficiency and productivity.
· Ensure team members clearly understand their responsibilities.
· Provide guidance and support to maintain production flow.
· Promote a positive team culture focused on accountability and communication.
3. Machinery & Process Control
· Ensure machinery and equipment are operated correctly and safely.
· Monitor equipment performance and identify issues early.
· Ensure correct setup, changeover and operation of machinery.
· Report equipment faults or maintenance requirements.
4. Health, Safety & Compliance
· Ensure all team members follow company health & safety policies.
· Monitor the work area to ensure safe systems of work are followed.
· Ensure correct use of PPE and safety equipment.
· Address unsafe behaviours or conditions immediately.
· Report incidents, near misses and hazards.
· Support safe chemical handling and COSHH controls.
5. Quality Assurance
· Ensure products meet company quality standards.
· Verify production documentation is completed accurately.
· Monitor product quality and address deviations.
6. Production Documentation & Records
· Ensure all required production paperwork is completed accurately and in full.
· Take responsibility for the correct completion of batch sheets, weight check sheets, QC checks and any other production documentation.
· Ensure all documentation is completed in real time and reflects the work carried out.
· Check that paperwork completed by operators is accurate and compliant with company procedures.
· Ensure production records are legible, complete and suitable for audit or quality review.
7. Communication & Reporting
· Maintain communication with the Production Supervisor regarding progress or issues.
· Provide updates on production status where required.
· Ensure production documentation is completed accurately.
Authority
· Direct and allocate work to production operatives assigned to the job.
· Stop work if unsafe conditions are identified.
· Escalate operational or safety issues to the Production Supervisor.
