We are seeking an experienced Senior Technician (Civil) to lead the delivery of high-quality CAD and digital engineering solutions across a diverse portfolio of civil engineering projects. Working closely with Engineers, Associates and Associate Directors, you will provide technical leadership, mentor junior team members and oversee the production of detailed 2D and 3D design information across highways, drainage, infrastructure, regeneration and aviation projects.
This role combines technical expertise, digital delivery leadership and team management, ensuring projects are delivered efficiently, sustainably and in line with RBG's quality, BIM and health and safety standards. You will play a key role in developing technical excellence within the UK Civil Engineering team while championing innovation, continuous improvement and best-practice digital delivery.
Leadership & Team Development

Lead, mentor and develop Technicians and Junior Technicians, supporting their professional growth and career progression.

Coordinate project resource planning and allocate workloads to ensure efficient project delivery.

Provide technical guidance, coaching and problem-solving support to team members.

Support recruitment activities, including participation in interviews where required.

Foster a collaborative, high-performing and positive team culture.

Contribute to the continued growth of the UK Civil Engineering practice through technical excellence, innovation and continuous improvement.
Technical Oversight & Governance

Ensure compliance with RBG's Integrated Management System (IMS), including ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 standards.

Support the implementation of health and safety policies, including compliance with CDM Regulations 2015.

Conduct technical reviews and quality assurance checks on drawings, models and project documentation.

Ensure all drafting outputs meet RBG standards, procedures and project requirements.

Support the preparation of technical presentations, capability statements and knowledge-sharing initiatives.

Promote BIM best practice and ensure alignment with project BIM Execution Plans (BEPs), Employer Information Requirements (EIRs) and related standards.
Design & Production
-
Lead the production of detailed CAD drawings and Civil 3D models for civil engineering projects.

Deliver highways, access roads, temporary works, enabling works and drainage infrastructure designs.

Develop concept, feasibility, planning and detailed-stage designs across sectors including infrastructure, aviation, rail and urban regeneration.

Produce highway geometry designs, including junctions, roundabouts, alignments and road networks in accordance with DMRB, Manual for Streets and relevant local authority standards.

Undertake drainage and utility network modelling and support hydraulic analysis activities.

Carry out clash detection and multidisciplinary design coordination.

Attend client, project and technical coordination meetings, providing specialist input where required.

Monitor production programmes and support the timely delivery of project outputs.

Prepare drawing transmittals and coordinate information issue processes.
Digital & BIM Integration
-
Lead the development and implementation of Civil 3D and AutoCAD workflows.

Produce and manage federated models, clash detection reviews and digital project deliverables.

Work within BIM processes in accordance with BS EN ISO 19650 and project-specific requirements.

Support the ongoing development of RBG's digital delivery standards and drafting protocols.

Prepare, publish and coordinate 3D design models through Common Data Environments (CDEs).

Contribute to the advancement of digital engineering capability across the wider business.
Document Control & Information Management
-
Ensure document control procedures are implemented and maintained effectively.

Coordinate with document controllers to manage project information workflows and transmittals.

Maintain project drawing registers, design outputs and digital records.
-
Verify compliance with project-specific and company documentation requirements.

Support the effective use of digital collaboration platforms and Common Data Environments (CDEs).
The Ideal Candidate Will Bring;
-
Proficiency in Civil 3D, AutoCAD and 3D modelling.
-
A relevant qualification in Civil Engineering, Engineering Technology or a related discipline, or equivalent industry experience.

Proven experience delivering civil engineering design and drafting projects within a consultancy environment.

Strong knowledge of highways, drainage and infrastructure design principles.
-
Experience coordinating multidisciplinary design information and digital project delivery.
-
A solid understanding of BIM workflows, BS EN ISO 19650 standards and Common Data Environments (CDEs).

Advanced Civil 3D capability, including highways, drainage, utilities and earthworks modelling.

Experience using digital engineering tools such as Navisworks, with familiarity of InfraWorks, Revit, InfoDrainage and MicroDrainage considered advantageous.

Strong leadership, mentoring and people development skills, with the ability to support and develop junior team members.

Excellent communication, coordination and stakeholder management skills.

Strong organisational skills, with the ability to manage resources, priorities and project deliverables effectively.
