Contract: 12-Week Temporary Assignment
We're recruiting a Finance Assistant to support the Children's service in a busy finance environment. This is a key support role, ideal for someone organised, accurate, and confident working with financial systems, suppliers, budget holders, and finance colleagues.
About the Role
As a Finance Assistant, you'll provide essential financial and administrative support to ensure accurate and effective financial management within the Children's service. You'll manage purchase orders, process supplier invoice queries, maintain accurate financial records, and provide financial information to support budget monitoring and decision-making.
The role is based at The Crescent, Taunton, Somerset, TA1 4DY, with hybrid working and at least one day per week in the office.
What You'll Be Doing
- Raising and managing purchase orders
- Processing and resolving supplier invoice queries
- Maintaining accurate financial records and transaction information
- Acting as a first point of contact for finance-related queries within the Children's service
- Supporting budget holders with the use of financial management systems
- Providing financial information to Business Partners through data interrogation and analysis
- Supporting budget monitoring and the effective use of financial information
- Ensuring financial regulations, controls, and procedures are followed
- Assisting with ad hoc finance projects and service improvement activities
- Working effectively with Finance colleagues, budget holders, suppliers, and other stakeholders
Requirements
We're looking for someone organised, detail-focused, and confident working with financial information and systems.
You'll ideally have:
- Understanding of basic financial processes, including purchase orders, invoice handling, and financial record keeping
- Knowledge of financial management systems and their use in budget monitoring
- Experience responding to financial queries from colleagues, suppliers, or external partners
- Experience maintaining accurate financial records and using financial systems
- Good general standard of education, including English and Maths (GCSE or equivalent)
- Strong attention to detail and a high level of accuracy
- Good numeracy and IT skills, with confidence using financial or data systems
- Effective written and verbal communication skills
- Good problem-solving skills, particularly when dealing with financial or invoice queries
- Ability to organise and prioritise workload to meet deadlines
- Customer-focused approach and ability to build positive working relationships
- Eligibility to work in the UK
