We are seeking an enthusiastic Consultant Paediatrician with acute and emergency care interest.
This is 8PA post for a substantive Consultant Paediatrician with acute and emergency care interest at the West Hertfordshire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust.
The successful candidate will join a dynamic team of individuals devoted to providing the very best care for our patients.
The post holder will provide shop floor support to CED and PAU, supporting both the Emergency Department stream of patients, as well as the Paediatric heralded stream of patients. The successful candidate would be expected to work in CED and PAU, with a mixture of day shifts, evenings, and weekends.
The post holder will also provide some prospective cover for these CED/PAU shifts. The CED/PAU departments have consultant cover 5 days a week with cover between 0800-2200 and one day of the weekend 1100-1900. Prospective cover is used to cover gaps in the service created by leave and ward consultant attending weeks. The number of PAs for CED/PAU shifts is inclusive to reflect prospective cover. In addition, the post holder will contribute to Bank Holiday cover and the Easter and Christmas/New Year rotas.

The post holder will participate in the 1 in 12 acute paediatric rota with 1:12 attending weeks, with daily ward rounds and cover for Starfish ward Tuesdays-Mondays 08:30-18:00. The post holder will be required to participate in the non-resident acute on call rota for Paediatrics 1 in 12 from 18:00 till 08.30 weekdays and split weekend cover 1 in 6. Weekend cover also includes resident morning and evening ward rounds on Starfish ward (and PAU if no CED/PAU consultant resident).
The post holder will be expected to be involved in the clinical supervision and management of emergency department and paediatric resident doctors and advanced clinical practitioners, supporting their clinical practice and professional development.
The consultant working arrangements may change responsive to service needs and are subject to formal annual job plan review.
