Main purpose of job:
Dietl is seeking an experienced Fine Art Warehouse Technician to join our team at our Hayes, Middlesex location.
The successful candidate will be responsible for the safe handling, packing, storage, movement, and preparation of valuable artworks within our warehouse facility. You will play a key role in ensuring artworks are received, stored, documented, and prepared for transportation or installation to the highest industry standards.
Working alongside our logistics and operations teams, you will ensure every piece is handled with exceptional care, maintaining accurate records and supporting the efficient day-to-day running of the warehouse.
Key Responsibilities
- Safely handle a wide variety of artworks, including paintings, sculptures, antiquities, textiles, and contemporary installations, following strict handling procedures.
- Pack, unpack and crate artworks using industry-approved materials and techniques to ensure maximum protection.
- Receive, inspect and safely store artworks within the warehouse.
- Prepare artworks for transportation, exhibitions, installations and client collections.
- Complete detailed condition reports upon receipt and dispatch of artworks.
- Maintain accurate inventory records and warehouse documentation.
- Assist with stock control, inventory audits and regular warehouse checks.
- Operate warehouse equipment safely and in accordance with company procedures.
- Ensure storage areas remain organised, clean and secure.
- Work closely with colleagues, clients and contractors to deliver projects efficiently.
- Adhere to all Health & Safety, security and quality procedures.
- Support installation teams when required.
Skills and Experience
- Previous experience working as a Fine Art Technician, Art Handler, Warehouse Technician or within the fine art logistics industry.
- Strong knowledge of handling paintings, sculptures, antiques and contemporary artworks.
- Experience with museum-quality packing and crating techniques.
- Excellent attention to detail and a careful, methodical approach.
- Strong organisational and time management skills.
- Ability to work effectively within a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
- Physically fit and capable of safely lifting and moving artworks and packing materials.
- Experience using warehouse inventory or collections management systems is advantageous.
Essential / Preferred Requirements
Essential
- Previous experience within a warehouse, logistics or fine art handling environment.
- Ability to follow detailed handling and security procedures.
- Good level of physical fitness.
- Flexible approach to working hours when operationally required.
Preferred
- Fine art handling or museum/gallery experience.
- Art installation and hanging experience (2 years preferred).
- Forklift licence (desirable).
- Knowledge of museum-quality packing and crating techniques.
- First Aid qualification (desirable).
