The ward clerk is an essential part of the ward team, who works within the ward, to provide routine clerical duties, to assist the nursing staff with the organisation of the ward.
The post holder will have direct contact with patients/visitors in their capacity as Ward Clerk within an inpatient setting, under the direction and supervision of a trained nurse.
Duties will include receiving and directing patients, visitors and staff visiting the ward. To receive and make telephone calls on behalf of the Ward Manager, referring these appropriately. To collect essential information and communicate with appropriate member of the ward team.
To undertake clerical duties relating to documentation for patients including admission paperwork, clinical notes, discharge notification, patient records etc. Make outpatient appointments and transport arrangements as appropriate. To undertake filing, and any other duties of a clerical or non-clinical nature which may be delegated from time to time.
To participate in the use of IT and electronic Clinical Systems within the department, keeping computer based patient information up to date where necessary.
Good computer and communication skills is very important for this role.

Assist with ordering and arranging ambulance / transport for transfer, discharge and follow- up external appointments for patients
Filing of all documentation into case notes and preparing case notes and x-rays for Solicitor requests
General Housekeeping
Ensuring adequate levels of nursing documentation available.
Photocopying nursing & patient related documentation at the request of the nursing staff
Maintaining & keeping clean and tidy the ward office, the Nurses stations, department computers, filing cabinets, stationary cupboards and case note trolleys.

To ensure compliance to all Trust Risk management, Research Governance and Infection Control Policies and Procedures and abide by the Standards for Better Health
Undertaken appropriate mandatory training including infection control and comply with all Trust Infection Control policies relevant to the post, particularly with regards to the hand hygiene policy.
