About the Bars at Electric Summer
Electric Summer is Battersea Power Station's headline summer takeover of Power Station Park and the Coaling Jetty, a riverside funfair featuring fairground rides, a big wheel, dodgems, a full-size roller rink, and pétanque courts. The drinks offer spans the Boardwalk Bar and rooftop terrace, plus the relaxed waterside bar on the Coaling Jetty, serving craft beer, wine, cocktails and soft drinks to high volumes of guests daily, including bank holidays, in a fast-paced, weather-exposed, festival-style environment.
Role Purpose
The Assistant General Manager (Bars) has full operational ownership of every bar outlet at Electric Summer. This is a hands-on, floor-based role: you'll run service, manage cellars and stock, lead the bar team, and make sure each outlet consistently delivers on drink quality, speed of service, compliance and commercial performance.
Key Responsibilities
Bar Operations
● Take full day-to-day ownership of the Boardwalk Bar, rooftop terrace bar, and Coaling Jetty waterside bar
● Run pre-service briefings and deploy bar staff dynamically across outlets based on footfall, weather and peak trading periods
● Own opening and closing procedures for every bar: float checks, line cleaning, cellar lock-up, and equipment shutdown
● Manage cellar operations — cask/keg changes, line cleaning schedules, temperature control and stock rotation (FIFO)
● Monitor speed of service and drink consistency across all outlets, stepping onto the bar personally during peak periods
● Maintain and troubleshoot bar equipment (pumps, coolers, glasswashers, POS terminals), escalating maintenance issues promptly
Team Leadership
● Train and manage a seasonal team of bartenders and bar backs
● Deliver induction and ongoing training on drinks knowledge, pour standards, upselling, allergens and Challenge 25
● Manage bar staff welfare in an outdoor environment, including hydration, sun/weather protocols and welfare breaks
● Run shift debriefs, performance management and disciplinaries for the bar team as required
● Build and manage bar rotas in line with forecasted trade and labour budgets
Compliance & Safety
● Hold Responsible Person duties for the bars, ensuring full compliance with the premises licence and Challenge 25 age verification
● Maintain allergen compliance for all drinks and any bar snacks served
● Ensure cellar safety, COSHH and manual handling protocols are followed at every outlet
● Log and report any bar-related incidents, near-misses or licensing concerns
Commercial Performance
● Deliver against GP targets, wastage control and stock-loss KPIs for every bar
● Own weekly bar stocktakes, supplier ordering and invoice reconciliation
● Identify upselling and promotional opportunities (e.g. sponsor-led drinks activations, themed cocktails, happy hours)
● Feed bar sales and stock data into weekly trading reports and forecasting
Guest Experience
● Champion a warm, high-energy guest experience across every bar, in line with the Electric Summer brand
● Handle guest feedback and complaints at the point of service and resolve issues quickly
● Ensure bar areas are well-presented, well-stocked and easy for guests to navigate, including queue management at peak times
Person Specification
Essential
● Minimum 2–3 years' experience in a bar management or assistant bar management role, ideally within high-volume, seasonal, festival, or outdoor venues
● Strong drinks knowledge across draught, cocktails, wine and soft drinks, with a genuine interest in quality and service standards

● Strong working knowledge of licensing law and Challenge 25
● Personal Licence holder (or willing to obtain before start date)
● Level 2 Food Hygiene certificate (or above)
● Proven ability to lead and motivate a bar team under pressure
● Confident, calm operator who leads from behind the bar during service
