Yard Manager / Operations Supervisor – Established Tyre Recycling Company

We are an established and successful tyre recycling company based in Erith and are seeking an experienced, hands-on Yard Manager / Operations Supervisor to lead our yard operations.
This role requires a strong leader who can effectively manage a small team of staff and daily operations while being willing to roll up their sleeves and assist with yard duties whenever required. The successful candidate will be organised, practical, safety-conscious and capable of balancing administrative responsibilities with hands-on operational work.
Key Responsibilities:
- Managing the day-to-day operations of the yard
- Leading, motivating and supervising yard staff to ensure productivity and safety
- Carrying out regular yard inspections and operational checks
- Conducting daily vehicle checks and ensuring fleet compliance
- Completing administration and record-keeping duties accurately
- Maintaining stock, vehicle and equipment records
- Operating a forklift for loading, unloading and moving materials
- Organising collections, deliveries and vehicle movements
- Carrying out minor repairs and basic maintenance on equipment and vehicles
- Driving company vans when required
- Ensuring the yard is kept clean, organised and operating efficiently
- Enforcing health and safety procedures and company policies
- Supporting the team with operational tasks during busy periods and leading by example
Requirements:
- Previous experience in a Yard Manager, Operations Supervisor, Supervisor or Team Leader role
- Valid forklift licence and practical forklift experience
- Full UK driving licence
- Strong leadership and communication skills
- Good administrative and organisational abilities
- Experience conducting vehicle checks and maintaining records
- Practical maintenance skills and the ability to undertake minor repairs
- A proactive, hands-on attitude and willingness to lead from the front
- Knowledge of health and safety requirements within a yard, recycling, transport or logistics environment
