Head of Care
About the Role
We are looking for a motivated, experienced and compassionate Head of Care to join our team and play a key role in transforming the quality of care within our home.
Our home is currently under CQC Special Measures, and we have new management in place with a clear focus on improvement, accountability and delivering outstanding care.
This is an exciting opportunity for someone who wants to make a real difference. We need a confident leader who can inspire the care team, raise standards, and help create a home where residents feel safe, valued, respected and genuinely cared for.
What You Will Do
As Head of Care, you will work closely with the Registered Manager and wider management team to ensure the highest possible standards of care.
You will:
Lead and support the care team on a day-to-day basis.
Set clear expectations and lead by example.
Make sure residents receive safe, compassionate and person-centred care.
Ensure care plans and risk assessments are accurate, meaningful and regularly reviewed.
Monitor the quality of care and act quickly when improvements are needed.
Support staff through supervision, coaching, training and development.
Promote excellent communication between staff, residents, families and professionals.
Ensure medication, safeguarding, health and safety and infection control procedures are followed.
Investigate and respond appropriately to incidents, accidents and concerns.
Complete and support regular audits and quality checks.
Help prepare the home for CQC inspections and demonstrate continuous improvement.
Work with the management team to deliver and maintain an effective improvement plan.
Promote dignity, choice, independence and respect in everything we do.
The Person We Are Looking For
We want someone who is hands-on, positive and ready to make a difference.
You will ideally have:
Previous experience in a senior care or supervisory role.
A relevant Health & Social Care qualification, preferably Level 3 or above.
Strong knowledge of safeguarding and person-centred care.
Experience leading, supporting and developing care staff.
Good knowledge of care planning, risk assessments and medication.
An understanding of CQC standards and regulatory requirements.
Excellent communication and organisational skills.
The confidence to challenge poor practice and drive improvement.
The ability to remain calm and professional under pressure.
What Matters Most
You don't have to know everything — but you must care about getting things right.
We are looking for someone who:
Puts residents first.
Leads from the front.
Has high standards and isn't afraid to challenge poor practice.
Can motivate and bring a team with them.
Takes ownership and follows things through.
Is solution-focused rather than problem-focused.
Understands that good care is about people, dignity, relationships and outcomes, not just paperwork.
Wants to be part of a genuine turnaround journey.
Why Join Us?
This is more than a standard Head of Care role.
With new management in place and the home currently under CQC Special Measures, you will have the opportunity to be part of a significant period of positive change.
You will work alongside a management team committed to:

Building a positive and accountable team culture.
Creating a safe, welcoming and well-led home.
Moving the service forward and achieving sustainable improvement.
